I've had it a little while, but I was struck last week by how cool it is--

Does anyone else own any from this set?

Andy, Great OJs!
Josh, Nice E93s. That McGraw is one of my favorites in the set. Yours is particularly clean and nice.

The Value of that overprint should be marked down for bad grammar:

"Your out" = grammatically incorrect

You paid too much for it!

I think it is the Babe's wife. And you're right it does look like Ruth is a little tired. I wonder how close this photo is to the Bellyache heard 'round the world?

Tim,

Your Cross is listed in the Standard Catalog under the letter "A" for "Anonymous Cabinets." (I think Lemke could have been more clever with naming these). They were produced in approximately 1904 and are very nice. I owned the Jimmy Collins once and traded it for a T5 Pinkerton of Joe McCarthy as a minor leaguer, which should give you some idea as to their value. Frank Ward had a McGinnitty a few years ago. I've seen maybe one or two others over the years. They are tough.

As far as I know, no one knows how they were distributed or who the photographer was.

I could be wrong, but all the cabinets from that set that I have seen have been with Horner photos. Same photos that are in Ramly, and Fan Craze sets.

Eagerly awaiting a shipment of D311 Pacific Coast cards and hoping the descriptions match the cards.
Picked these up, always happy to give beautiful Zeenuts a new home and if the Coombs grades, it will have been a steal. The blue Devlin E94 was the first I have ever seen in any condition and completes the 6 Devlin colors for me, violet, gold, red, blue, olive and green

...but the prices are STILL astronomical for most issues...so I've won three more uniforms, got two in the mail today including a collared one to complete my collection of 1910-20 styles. I might buy some of those card blow-up posters referenced earlier, as back-drops for displays.

I planned on hitting St. Paul on the way to the Black Hills for my family vacation. I like to visit the Nebraska Baseball Museum on occasion. They have a celebration for GCA every year in July.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

These are all items that belonged to Alexander. His family still visits the museum regularly. The baseballs are all handmade balls that belonged to Alexander as a child.

Starffin's whole Russian family had lived in Japan for quite a while. He was a baseball star in college, but like many college baseball stars in Japan, when the Majors came around in '36, he was "too good" to play for money. However...his father had just committed murder (something really unpleasant, like a young girl, or something), and the government offered to get his dad off with no jail and no fine if he'd go pro. So he did, and after a while, he liked it fine. He was a great pitcher in the '30s. '40s and '50s.

Nagashima has always been the Japanese ' favorite player (and manager). Oh may have hit more home runs, but Nagashima is everyone's idea of the perfect Japanese man of baseball. This is a rookie card, 1958.

This is Ichero's first Calbee card (always great photographers, Calbee). They attached single cards (all wrapped up pretty) to bags of potato chips, and in 1994, when they put out their first cards of Ichero--there was a potato famine. A few cards were found in Hokkaido--the northernmost island, where the potatoes grow. It's actually a second year card. The "BBM" that came out the year before is --as you would expect from their having Topps as advisors--pretty boring. It has been faked thousands of times. This one is real.

I did not get any new cards this month. I did pick up on on autographed individual 8 x 10 photos of Mike Schmidt, Stan Musial, Bob Gibson and Al Kaline. A bat signed by Ernie Banks, and a football signed by Dan Marino.

Best Regards,

Adam J. Moraine

I got the Auction Fever on the Cobb photo, but I had to have it. Especially since there was no way I was going to be able to snag the Jackie Robinson card.

These too, from eBay...

Taken in Cooperstown, July 1959.

Left to Right: Home Run Baker, Ty Cobb, Zach Wheat, Frank Frisch, Joe McCarthy, George Sisler, Pie Traynor.
