Default Hello everyone!

Posted By: Chris Wassmuth

Hi everyone. I'm new to the boards and thought I would take a second to say hello. I just recently got into vintage cards and have really enjoyed reading these boards for awhile now. Thought I should actually sign up so I can start asking questions. My current interests are in St. Louis Cardinals and Brooklyn Dodgers cards and memorabilia as well as collecting low grade cards of HOF players. I have just recently started to collect Zach Wheat cards as he was born about 30 minutes from where I live.

Thanks for having me on the boards!

Chris

Welcome to the board Chris!

You'll pick up a lot of information here, and meet a lot of crazy characters, but most are harmless.

My favorite Zach Wheat story, and I've told it on the board before, is in 1952 Ralph Edwards, the host of the television show "This is Your Life" conducted a tribute to Casey Stengel, and brought out several surprise guests, among them Zach Wheat. Zach spoke for a moment or two about Casey's life, and I guess it's the only known footage of him speaking (Irish Meusel also joined him).

Hey Chris,

Welcome aboard...

How many Wheats do you have? I love the T205 Wheat. Haven't acquired one just yet, but I plan to very soon.

Good luck with your collection,

Shawn

I currently have a huge Wheat collection: 3 cards. Yes you read that right: 3 cards. I do happen to have the T205 along with the T206 and T202. So far the T202 is my favorite. And if I ever get any money I hope to add to the collection.

Chris

Welcome to the Board, Chris. I'm one of the harmless "characters" Barry mentioned.

Hello Chris and welcome aboard. There is no better place to learn and discuss vintage cards. Recently (as you may already know) the moderators added some other vintage discussion areas which can be accessed by clicking on the "NET 54 POSTWAR SPORTSCARDS" baseball icon. Best of luck with your Wheat collection.

I too collect Zach Wheat items. I am from his bithplace and have collected his items for about 25 year. I bid as zackwheat on ebay also. I dont find many items on ebay I dont already have. I am not to big on new 1/1 type cards of Zach, I would rather have the original old cards instead of some card that was made last week. Feel free to contact me any of you other Wheat collecters.
