My guess would be ML offered +10% to +20 commission and figured the card would be a great marketing tool and/or Mastro or REA refused to offer such favorable terms or positioning (marketing). The $25K - $40K additional might have made the difference. However, I would call ML an 'interesting' choice in lieu of recent / past revelations! It sure is a beautiful card but with the 55 - 45 and 60 - 40 (or so) centering a 9 MINT would have been more appropriate.

THey may have a long relationship with him. It may be part of a larger deal where he agreed to consign this card in order to make another deal happen. They may have given him the best deal for consignment. In the end, anyone who wants that card will bid on it regardless of who is auctioning it. It has been a known card in the hobby for years now.
