Josh, same to you. My boys received the first two of about 62 more presents over the next eight days. Of course, the first season of Spongebob on DVD was a present for me as well... happy.gif

Happy Chanukah to you, too. We celebrated the first night with the whole family together, including my 91-year-old dad. It's a special time of year.

I am a born-again Christian, but would love to hear more about how this holiday came about. I remember that the oil in the temple lamps lasted 8 days in a miraculous way. Also, the Maccabean revolt occured...would love more details and please correct me if I am wrong in the above.

Shalom

Big J - you are correct - the Holiday celebrates two miracles - the military victory of a small army of Jewish priests over the Greek and Hellenist forces who had tried to subjugate them and the miracle of the small lone remaining amount of pure oil, that usually burnt out in 1 day, keeping the Menorah in the Temple burning for 8 days until new oil was available.

Years later, the Jews were exiled and the Temple was destroyed, which should have canceled the Holiday, but it lives on as a message of hope, that even when times are tough and the odds seem not in our favor, we can still overcome.

We celebrated the first candle lighting as well. It is a great time of year!! Christmas tree went up too. It is nice to celebrate both and have happiness no matter what your religious beliefs are.

Dan, I am nearly addicted to Spongebob. After four years of Blue's Clues, Franklin and Dora (and Diego), Spongebob is heaven.

Jeff...

I know exactly what you are saying (although my kids are moving out of the sponge-bob years).

After suffering through Barney, Thomas Train, blues clues, dora...... Sponge Bob was a welcomed gift!

You guys should give Billy & Mandy a try...although some of the humor is a bit crude for children.

South Park has numerous positive depictions of Jewish children, their families and traditions. There's even an episode about Jewish summer camp for kids. It's just that the cartoon also includes the KKK, Satan's sex life, impaling of children, prostitutes with syphilous, talking fecal matter, eight year olds and their teachers using drugs, cannibalism and a stray dog eating the corpse of someone's grandmother.

Happy Festival of Lights to the Jewish guys, to the gentiles Merry Xmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Good Yule and to the doubtful Agnostics like myself, just stay warm.

Thanks for the video Joe. Sandler's spirit is highly contagious.

Jodi,

Not Lionel Richie's house, just the latest stupid fad. Google "upside down Christmas trees." One big advantage is there is more room underneath for presents!
