1913 changed from highlanders to yankees....lots of cards refer to them as NY americans. good question,1913 fatima team=ny americans, as late as 1916 m 101-4 refer to them as ny americans.1919 w514's do refer to them as yankees. i'm sure someone knows the answer.

They are identified in the T205 set as Yankees, I believe these are the first "cards" to reference them as such.

Thanks for all the info, i guess it wasn't that dumb of a question afterall. Looks like the T205's take it although if the Highlanders weren't renamed to Yankees until 1913... ahhhhh nevermind!!!

Question : If the NY Yankees were not Yankees until 1913 then why are they called Yankees in the T205 "1911" set ?

I once read the team nicknames were initially given by the press and or the fans and weren't officially adopted by the leagues til later. Then again, it could have been a dream.

Steve, I think that's correct. The Highlanders were nicknamed the Yankees for a while before the name was officially adopted.
