Default Favorite Modern Cards

Most of my collection is pre and post war, but these are my two favorite modern baseball cards, and it's not even close. Honorable mention to cards like 89 UD Griffey, FF Ripken, and rookies like Gwynn, Cal Ripken, and Rickey Henderson.

What are your favorites?

What are your favorites?
this is a great thread! your Griffey refractor is my all time grail card. But I just got a nice alternative for my PC.

I normally only collect rookies in the modern era, but the 93 refractors are an exception. Amazing cards and huge historically. I had a Griffey 9 but STUPIDLY sold it years ago. Now they are prohibitive.

When it comes to design and creativity, modern rules the market. It's like watching an old 70s movie vs a 2023 movie. The old movie may be cool, but the special effects, quality and everything else technology brought makes for a much "better" show. There are so many incredibly cool cards, it's hard to pick. The old standard Topps has it's appeal, and of course value, but they are fairly boring.

I collect everything, so I have never excluded anything.

Diecutting, lenticular, acetate, dufex to start. Sometimes it goes too far, but to each their own.

Here are two that I think are extra cool. Value and star power usually sways most peoples decisions when it comes to showing off the "best" cards, but there are plenty of cheap cards that are equally as cool. I have these 2 cards, but the 2 shown are not my copies, I just grabbed scans off the internet.

These for various reasons are my favorites. A few are the rookie cards of players I enjoyed. A couple are just great looking cards, and one has some fun memories attached to it.

This last one is a great action card but I love it because it was taken on a day I was at Yankee Stadium and had the best day I've ever spent at a ballpark.

Those are modern? I would call those vintage.

I remember opening so many Donruss packs as a kid hoping for one of those elite cards. Especially a signed one. No luck. Although a couple years ago I did pull one out of one of those repackaged boxes from Walmart. They were almost like a myth back then, same with that Thomas NNOF. My friends and I had heard of them, but never actually saw one.

Some of my favorite modern are the recent Stadium Club releases with some beautiful photography of the greatest of the past mixed in with todays players. Worthless base, but the fun is in the cards.

Tiffany. It just makes birds sing in your ears. I guess I'm old enough to find these cool. I don't think my son cares.

Does anyone else get messed up between the old SGC and new.... It only happens to me on the 10s, so for instance here I was thinking that's a great looking card, what's wrong with it. Before I realized it's the new slab and the answer is "nothing" ....

Great cards.

The majority of my modern cards are hockey cards but I do have some baseball cards as well if they qualify?

I pulled the Epix as a 12yo, pulled the Laser as a 10yo, and bought the Statistical Standouts cuz it was a card I always wanted. It's gorgeous!

Love all these sets regardless of player shown. If anyone has the more limited Call to Arms of Larkin, and you're looking to sell, I am a willing buyer.
