Anyone know gold coins too?

Wondering if any members here also know something about 110 YEAT old gold coins - am trying to get some trusted help and guidance on what I have here and the best way to sell (to fund my card needs, naturally!)

So far, I think I have roughly confirmed these to be 1910 and 1911 gold coins (I’m told they are $2.50 piece coins but I have no idea how to validate that)

As you can see, they were turned into cufflinks so the value is more related to solid gold cufflinks than the coins alone.

Does it on here for double duty in both cards and gold gold coins like this?

The denomination is on the reverse of the coins at the bottom rim. Are the coins soldered into the cuff links? If so, one way you will tell for sure is to desolder them. Take them to a jewelry shop and let them do it.

You can also measure the front. It should be 18mm rim to rim and that is also indicative of a 2.5 dollar coin.

Oh and they are 90% gold and 10% copper alloy and not pure gold. Still will bring a nice sum at melt value if the coins are damaged by soldering. Find a local coin dealer and see what you can get after you get them out. Or just see what a coin dealer will offer you.

Agree, doubt they have much value beyond melt, if a $20 coin from that era is about one ounce (less the amount of the alloy in the coin), a $2.50 coin is probably an eighth of that. BTW that coin also comes in a $5 denomination.

Thank you both for your advice… I actually did receive an offer last night from an EBay Jewler to purchase as-is for $1200 for the pair. He indicated the resale value to be around $2k

Does that seem reasonable to both of you?

The other thought I have is to try and sell these myself on eBay to try and get closer to the $2k retail value but I am (obviously!) not a jewelry seller so I’m not sure I’d get the attention or credibility needed to sell at that level.

If you got a $1200 offer, it's probably not legit. If it is legit, you should accept it quick! The coins themselves sell for a little under $500 each...and that's if they're not damaged from the bezels. The bezels may be be worth $100 each in scrap. I see maybe $1200 value there are best...no way $2K

I wouldn't take the first offer, at least check around.

If they are $2.50, the current melt is just over $234 each. If the case around the coin and chain are gold, that would add to the value obviously. Take it to a jeweler and ask them to test if the chain and bezel are gold. Make sure you tell them you aren't interested in selling.

Does anyone know of any reliable jewelers who I could bring these to to test the gold AND get the total weight in gold?

Would any jeweler be able to do this?
