Default No Respect for Sweet Cap 350-460 OP Fac. 42!

Does anyone else feel the Sweet Caporal 350-460 Overprint (Fac 42-4th Dist-NC) backs don't get the respect they deserve when it comes to the scarcity rankings?

They sure have a small population according to grading company reports and are pretty tough to find in decent shape on eBay and other online auctions for a "common" back.

By the way, I'm new to the forum and looking forward to meeting everyone and talking everything T206!

Also, does anyone on here have this Kaiser Wilhelm (With Bat) in their collection? I have yet to see another one!

I've always liked the backs but to most people I think when they see that the company is Sweet Caporal they disregard any factory numbers associated with it.

That said I've always wondered why an "Overprint" is more scarce than others. This is where I admit ignorance. Was it in fact not overprinted, or produced more than others? Just wondering why it would be called or referred to as an Overprint if that were the case.

The "overprint" is that ornate red line that is supposed to cover the Factory 30, but in this case missed. On most overprints the line covers the Factory 30, and all you can see is the Factory 42.

Josh --

It had never occurred to me until reading your post that "overprint" in this context might mean "printed more than other cards"; in fact, I was confused by your post until I saw Sean's response. As Sean says, "overprint" in the description of this back refers to the bar that overprints (or overstrikes) the original factory number.

Thanks Sean. I forgot because, I mostly see them labeled as Overprint and seldom have seen them labeled Overstrike. But I have seen some people say overstriike.

Yeah, sorry I was trying to work it in a way that made sense haha. But I always thought that it was a possibility that it was over printed. Sean has confirmed that that is not the case hence they're scarce. I actually own about 6 or 7 of them.

Welcome to the forum, Jay.

I would expect that several of the forum members have the Wilhelm card, though there will be a variety of backs, of course.

Mine has the same Sweet Cap factory 42 overprint. It's in pretty nice condition.
