Default Feel like gambling on a 1952 Topps Mantle?

Take a look at this auction, since we're on the topic of EBay and all it's idiosyncrasies:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1952-TOPPS-MICKEY-MANTLE-ROOKIE-GAI-EX-MT-6-5-/220800495931?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item3368bc313b

who feels like gambling? A seller who opened up their account 18 months ago (as opposed to 18 days ago) with a feedback score of one, and no returns on graded cards. I wrote the guy about these points, and he replied:

Most people dont offer refunds on graded cards. I was just looking at how other sellers sold graded sports cards. As far as selling never planned on selling it, until now. So, figured ebay would be the best way to do so. Thanks

I guess so far at least 4 people think this is worth the gamble, or is there another 49 Paige story on our hands?? Thoughts?

Default If it looks like a duck a quacks like a duck....

...then its probably not a rookie mantle. "1" feedback does not make me feel secure irregardless of when he registered. It would be interesting to find someone that lived near him in Ohio and ask him if they can come over and view the card. Sounds more like a duck to me.....

It always annoys me when people refer to the '52 Mantle as his rookie..

His 1 feedback is from April 2010 and it was a 1965 Mantle PSA 5. Not saying it was a true transaction - but you never know. Pay with a CC and prepare to fight if/when the time comes. Any bets on where it ends at?

I grew up loving topps so this is my view...pick somewhere else to spray your negativity.

Does that mean that you consider the 1958 Topps Stan Musial AS card his rookie? How about the 1998 Topps Alex Rodriguez? Would you call that a rookie too?

It doesn't matter how you feel about Topps, a rookie is a rookie, and these are not rookies, just like the Mantle isn't. They are however noteworthy for being their first Topps cards, and that's it.

Stating a fact isn't "spraying negativity"...

I'm curious, I asked him what part of Ohio he is in. I only live about 15 minutes from the Indiana/Ohio line. Might be worth a drive if he'd let me take a look

Default Variation B of Mantles card

It could just be the scans but this version of the card should have a missing pixel on the upper left side of the card and it's not present or just doesnt show up on the scans.

I'd say go for it. If it's real you could get quite the bargain.

Default Back Scan

No back scan to show the serial number... I'd stay away regardless.
