I got these in a Ron Santo fans estate lot auction on eBay years ago, I bought the lot to get a 1971 Ron Santo unlicensed stadium pin. I would guess the photos are circa 1971-73 judging by Santo's hair. No dates on the backs of the photos but the fourth photo has Ron and Jeffy Santo written on the back so apparently the little kid is Santo's son. Santo appears to be very agitated in the first photo with the forced smile/smirk. I have another lot of photos of 1972 Chicago Cubs that were taken as they entered or left a hotel in street clothes. I will post them whenever I run across them.

The first five Santo's are taking at the extremely old gas station that was located across from Wrigley Field on Clark street for decades. I remember seeing not only some of the players parking there but Lou Boudreau would park there as well and cross Clark street to get into the park.

This gas station dated back several decades and was always one of these places my dad and I would hang around, waiting for autographs.

Those Santo pics remind me of his 1974 card, which looks like nothing more than a fan's snapshot...

Double posting today,

Huge thanks again to Gary, As he allowed me to acquire a few Really amazing snaps of Teddy and Feller. I think Gary should catalogue his collection online. Would be spectacular to see all of his snaps!

Ted is Returning to the dugout with his Rbi after a Homer. That handshake stalky run is so recognizable!
And Bob is winding up for a warm up clinic!

Got a few more I will share Next time 😊.

Default Snapshots...Lets See Them!

My Single National Snap Pickup! Rudy York was
Part of the Tigers late 1930s/mid 40s powerhouse lineup alongside The Hebrew Hammer.
Snap dates somewhere between 1940-1945.

Rudy is best known for his Rookie Month of August 1937 where he hit 18 homers breaking Babes Single month Record of 17.

Sweet pick up Lucas! Looks like a success at National!

Thank you for the kind comments. I'm hoping one day in the future I'll be able to catalog my snappers

By far my favorite Non major leaguer snap ever.
I picked this up in a lot recently. A young Soldier in a batting pose in front of a military base. On the back It is labeled Pavelle Color Print on Ansco Printon.
I believe dating around the Korean war (maybe a military hobbyist could shed more light on exact date).

Just an astounding color photo, pose and setting.

A few of my Recent Pick-ups.

Beautiful Wilmer Fields sliding snap taken in Puerto Rico

Pete rose (can't tell the location on this one)

Red Sox Spring Training In Florida

And my favorite more modern snap in my collection so far is this Daryl Strawberry minor league snap with the Lynchburg Mets. Daryl is 19 here, And it looks like a Little League sized crowd showed up to watch!

Default Recent no-hitter snapshot photo pickups

Here is a great 1951 snapshot of DET Tigers no-hit RHP Virgil "Fire" Trucks.
Trucks hurled 2 no-hitters the following year in 1952.

Another cool one is this 1960 spring training snapshot of Boston Red Sox pitcher Earl Wilson. In 1962 Wilson hurled a no-hitter on 6/26 against the LA Angels.

Many thanks to board member Gary Scamehorn for helping me find these great additions to my no-hit snapper collection.

What's your assumption for Korean War? Personally, for it being in color with rounded corners like that, I would make the guess Vietnam era. My mother was born in 1952, and her earliest photos were developed in B&W. She didn't start getting color snapshots until after 1960.

Tim, you might be right about this one, but I have snapshots with rounded corners as far back as the 1930s, and I have one color snapshot that's from the late 1940s.

My guess early to mid 60s. Looks like a U.S. Marine, and also looks like a Marine base - my guess would be Barstow Logistics Base, or Yermo, in California. The young man is wearing a sateen utility uniform with a Marine style web belt and his boots are bloused. A white t-shirt was also standard. This uniform was phased out in the mid 70s. The Quonset huts in the background were also very common during the period. They also were phased out (there are a few left) beginning about that time. Roberto Clemente was a U.S. Marine but unfortunately that's not him in the photo. Hope this helps.

I was basing my assumption on the back stamp. The Pavelle Brothers became Paterson-Pavelle in 1963. And started selling at home color photo kits. The fact it is on Pavelle Brothers Paper Likely Dates it prior to the company merging. Also the kits supplied a more standard paper with a white border. The Vietnam war started for America in 1964. Though who knows, It could have been taken anytime in between and not be during war time at all.

I’ve just contacted a UK photo expert to get some better insight.

Also I posted a few Kodachrome (color) Snaps of two Cardinals further back in the thread that date from 1948! The exact same wallet size print style as this young soldier. Along with the aagpbl color one that Chris is Referring to.

I LOVE a snapshot and these are all wonderful!

Here are only a few from my AAGPBL / women in baseball collection. I love any photo that shows the dugout, the spectators, the dirt on the ground.

I’m not into basketball or modern collecting. But this snap of Micheal Jordan with the Barons was beautiful when I saw it. So I made a single bid and won it! I can respect a legend trying his hand at other sports. His run was short lived, only a season in minor league ball. So I figured seeing another this nice isn’t super likely.

I took this after a game where Schmidt hit a game winning homer in the bottom of the ninth. I would love to get it signed but the cost would be way too high. I should have had it signed years ago. Oh Well.
Thanks,
Bob

I have never seen a Clemente snapshot sell for anywhere near this amount. I was out at $55.00.

I think the fact it's a very clear image of Roberto signing is very appealing. Especially because he's renowned for his tough auto.

This is a really great companion piece for any Roberto auto!

Another possibility is a few of the bidders might've been kids and were at pirates spring training that year. And hey maybe even got Roberto's autograph! A real dream scenario that people would definitely pay up for.

I was shocked at the '71 Clemente snapper hammer price as well!

My First ever Babe Snap.

Shows Babe at the Film Premier of The Pride Of the Yankees in 1942. Happy to grab one of the babe. Would of course love one on field in uniform later on too!

This is a little guy about 2 1/4 x 2 1/4.

Yeah, I was watching that one as well. I would have paid $150, so was surprised it went that high. I really like the image though.

Default New no-hit pitcher snappers

Here are a few recent no-hit pitcher snappers that I have added:

Jim Maloney 1960's snapshot. Maloney tossed two no-hitters in 1965 and 1969 in addition to an unofficial no-hitter in 1965

One personal HUGE score was finding a group of 18 snapshots that were taken of HOF Nolan Ryan warming up prior to the game on 8/15/93 @ CLE. Nolan got his last career win in this game- #324. What makes these snappers extra special is I own Nolan's game used full uniform from this game!

A great signed color snapper of Vida Blue on the mound when he dominated in the early 1970's. Blue pitched a no-hitter in 1970.

Finally, a signed circa 1968 snapper of no-hit pitchers Ray Washburn and Bob Gibson. Oh yeah, also some guy named "Lefty". He had a pretty good career too...

Default Walter and Clark

I don't think that I've posted this previously. Golfing photo of Clark Griffith with golf club setting up a shot watched by Walter Johnson - purportedly from Johnson estate.

Here are a couple pages from my Bill Davidson scrapbook which include photos of Zack Wheat and Davidson screwing around with guns. Also a page of the Brooklyn Dodgers on a Spring training trip.

My LOTG Win just showed up today.

A beautiful 1908 Snap of Christy Mathewson. Amazing clarity of Christy, stunning outfield view.

I know it's a type 2, but to me that's irrelevant 1.Because it's a snapshot that was created from the negative that is very likely no longer in existence or lost somewhere deep in somebody's attic.
2. It's a very old copy, and would be easily discernable from a copy made anytime in the last 60+ years.
I actually heavily disagree with the c1950s PSA guess, and would personally place it to a 1930s era copy. The back stamp design and the lack of kodak branding also attribute to this. As well as the great clarity.

Maybe you think different, but In any case I'm pumped to have this one!

Not from the estate, but very cool nonetheless.

Means a lot coming from you're collection. I'm not sure I'll be able to top this one in 2023 but who knows!

Picked up this Great Group of 5 snaps that just arrived today.
Taken in February 1974 in St Petersburg for old Timers day.

Pictured in uniform are
Red, Stan and Bob

Let's play a little game,
Can you name the last two?

The second one looks a bit like Enos Slaughter. I saw Bob Feller pitch in an old timers game around 1974. He still had some zip on the ball. Great snapshots!

Thanks Chris! And Great Guess with Enos.

That's actually "Muscles" Ducky Medwick in the Blue Long sleeved shirt.

The man in the suit is very hard to get, I'll give a hint on him that should be pretty damning. He swung one of the heaviest bats in baseball history!
