This card just arrived from the UK...

Bad news: 1 of the missing 3 is Tom Morris.

Picked these up raw, and just got them back from SGC. I was hoping for higher grades since these have SHARP corners, but the cards were stored in photo corners and are toned. I guess that sort of minor toning causes more of a downgrade than I expected...

Thanks for the kind words Jason.

There is no surface damage, no creasing or wrinkling or discoloration, and the back is clean. The scan actually does not do it justice (I think because of the way the light reflects off of this type of card).

I would be surprised if it didn't come back a '7'....
but then again - I am usually a bit optimistic.

Joe,

That is a nice Vardon. The corners look mostly square and there is little chipping. Those Ogdens are a bear. I plan on working on the 1901 Ogden I-base set. A little at a time of course. It's hard to believe how many of those 100 year old cards are still out there. I like your 1900 Copes Morris and Morris Jr. too. Are you working on the set?

As far as Copes - I only have Old Tom and Young Tom.

I also won the trimmed (narrow) old tom that was on eBay last week.... so now I have two. That one has yet to arrive. I couldn't help myself - I probably will look to buy that card any chance I get.


I go back and forth on the idea of collecting the rest of the set.... and more and more I think I want to take the plunge and go for the rest of them.
It is a beauty of a set.

Nice card. It's definitely one of the harder ones in any grade. I hope to add one to my collection some day.

Here are the results to my latest submission. The last 3 Marsumas are some of the best I have ever seen. The 1927 Churchman Large Bobby Jones is near impossible in PSA 7 or better. I don't recall ever seeing a PSA 7 up for sale. The 1923 B. Morris Golf Strokes is a beauty. I have a full set of the B Morris cards waiting to be graded and expect similar results.

great cards Peter. That '27 Bobby Jones is a beauty.


And the grades on those Marsumas - they must be incredible cards.

I have just one Marsuma - #36 Vardon in a PSA 6 - and I thought that card was one of the nicer Marsumas I had seen.... but 7, 8s, and 9!! Very cool.

Are you working on the Marsuma set? I would love to see more scans from that set.... if you have them handy that would be cool - maybe start a Marsuma thread.

Thanks Joe. With this set, a PSA 6 is a great grade, especially a Vardon. Nearly a third, 16 of the 50 cards have not been graded higher than PSA 6 yet. I have the full set graded but have plenty in need of upgrading. I also need to upgrade the ones from my latest submission as soon as I get the chance.

Thanks guys - I was happy to pick up the book for less than I was expecting to have to dish out. Looks better than the scans do it justice. I think I'll be holding on to this one and enjoying it for a while.....
