I started my HOF auto collection by going to card shows in the 80s, and most of the interactions were not memorable as the players would sign item after item without looking up. Stan the Man was different. He smiled really wide when I approached him. He asked, "Do you play baseball, son?" I replied that yes, I did. I'll never forget that he said "you look like you can hit a ton!" and laughed a warm laugh.*

I think I was 12, and I remember thinking that he probably says that to all of the 12 year olds in line, but I didn't care. He tried to make my few seconds with him memorable and it worked. Great ball player and great guy.
