Default 1908 chicago cubs team panoramic photo poster & eye witness account

High rarity panoramic display, issued in honor of the Chicago Cubs 1908 World Championship season, features a large photo of a game in progress, & above a display of twenty two images of members of the 1908 Chicago Cubs. President Charles Murphy, Secretary Charles Thomas & treasurer Charles Williams are featured on the right and left borders of the photo. An illustration of an upright bear on the right side of panorama completes the illustration. The piece measures over three feet in length, (39 inches) & was taken by photographer Robert Hall & probably depicts the 1908 World Series, considering the overflow crowd seated in the outfield. Included among the photos are legendary players Mordecai Brown, Orval Overall, Ed Reulbach, Frank Schulte, Pat Moran, John Pfeister, Harry Steinfeldt, Jim Slagle, Jim Sheckard & Carl Lundgren. The display was originally issued by E.T. Johnson & Co., who published the clubs official scorecards & was produced immediately after the 1908 World Series. The fully captioned title reads: “A Yard of the National Game, Home of the Record Breaking Cubs, Thrice Champions of the National League 1906, 1907, 1908 – 1907 = Champions of the World =1908. A 1908 copyright appears below the central photo. This is one of several “A Yard of the National Game” prints produced to honor the Cubs between the years 1907 & 1910, which each year’s version featuring a similar design but different photos and captions. This piece features some tears as well as staining & has additional Chicago Cubs ephemera attached. All of “The National Game” panoramas are highly desired and sell on average between $1,500 & $3,000 but there is one special thing about this piece that makes it even rarer. Someone who actually attended the World Series has written some information about the games on the piece itself, some of which is featured in the pictures. This person talks about the first Cub ball park on Harrison and Loomis streets & how much it cost to attend the games, 25 cents for bleacher seats, $1.20 for box seats. Also references the “standing room crowds”, where the Cub’s benches were & when Wrigley field opened in 1916. This panorama is affixed to a wooden plaque & writing is also on the back of the wood itself. Not only is this a highly desirable piece of baseball history but a piece of folk art as well.
