Cool color variations
Found these while going though a 100K+ collection I bought from my younger brother a little over a year ago. I also found 2 90 Fleer Canseco cards not long after getting it. Gave one to Tanner and he traded me out of the other one. They all have the same issue, low yellow ink. I know the cards went straight from packs to binders but took a Canseco and put it in my window for 2 months to fade it and make sure the ones Tanner got were real low ink cards. They are 100% factory printing errors and look cool.
I included a normal Canseco because I did not have another McGwire for comparison. The Will Clark on the left is the normal card. Also found a 89 Topps Vince Coleman with Cardinals and around his name in orange. After a quick look on COMC I found that color error to be semi-common. |

Not sure how well it will show up on a internet picture. Here is the real low ink McGwire next to the faded Canseco. In hand it is very easy tell the difference. One of the easier places is the 90 beside the Fleer logo at the top. The Canseco is light colored and the McGwire is still nice and bold.
I pasted some of the McGwire pieces onto the Canseco card to better show the differences between a real low ink card and a faded card. Last edited by bnorth; 01-14-2017 at 12:06 PM. |

Interesting cards.
I'm not sure I'd call them low yellow, but there's certainly something going on there. I wouldn't go with low yellow for a couple reasons. The yellow in the logos and the uniform looks pretty good. One is a bit less. but not way outside the normal differences for late 80's early 90's cards. On my monitor the detailed pics both look teal, but looking at the bit showing the corner of the border, on one you can see two layers of color. on the other it looks like only one. Maybe one of the printers tried to save some money and skate past using colors that were almost right without the yellow being under the border to make green? Or maybe they are printed with a lighter shade of yellow Or it really is almost missing Either way, they're cool cards. Steve B |
