You know what would've been hilarious? If you only used cut up pieces of Willie Mays cards to create the baserunner on the '56 Aaron card. A knowing little 'wink wink' to us collectors.

These newest additions look incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent work as usual, Tim. It looks like a lot of 1990 Donruss cards were turned into masterpieces here. Did you spare the reverse negative Juan Gonzalez errors?

There is a very nice King Kelly N162 piece in the current LOTG auction. It could provide an interesting data point on the resale value of these items.

Mine no secret, I’ve posted it here before. My point was that these don’t come to market very often and as such there are few data points on resale value.

For you I hope I am wrong. I will guess significantly less than you paid to have it made. I have had 9 cut card pieces made and wouldn't expect to even break even on any of them if I decided to sell.

Hi Ben! I hope you are wrong too but we’ll see. Does anyone know what the new pieces are selling for now? I don’t think most people buy them with the thought of reselling them, but eventually virtually everything does get resold and I think most would hope that what they bought, if not appreciating, would at least retain its’ value.

These are highly subjective pieces and I don't think it would be wise to buy them with an intention to sell them later. Everyone picks their card, no?

What I mean is, you could have a card that appeals to a lot of people made. Like an 89 UD Griffey, for example. But most of the pieces are cards that were personal favorites of the person who commissioned the piece. Or at least that was my understanding.

im under the impression only one of any given card will ever be made...atleast that was the initial policy. I believe these are like ten times the cost to have commissioned as when I had mine made years ago. Obviously the popularity/desitrability of the piece/card will affect its sale price...along with the current cost to commission one along with the fact only 1 of a card will ever be made.

Maybe if there was a low starting bid. IMO a high starting bid just shows little faith in auction format

Great points. Whoever has the 1952 Topps Mantle or the T206 Wagner has probably done a lot better than the guy, if there is such a guy, with the 1960 Topps Johnny Blanchard.

For the most part I highly agree. With something like this if it was mine I would also like the opening bid to be close to what I had in it. Because it is custom made for someone I don't see a huge upside and could easily see it selling for way less than the current opening bid if started low.

I somehow missed he was only doing one of each card. I agree that the "special/big" cards in the hobby could be a good investment. I can say everyone that sees the ones I have think they are extremely cool until I tell them what they cost. Then they think I am joking because they say they look like a grade school kids art project.

That's right, you get your choice of any card Tim has not already made before. I am sure that was a deliberate choice not to commoditize them. The Kelly, probably because the underlying card is so great, is spectacular. But in the famous words of a dealer friend of mine, it may be the case that the only thing lower than the supply is the demand.

challenge those people to make one as good Tim's and you'll pay them for it. Hell there's at least one other guy charging for this type of art that I wouldn't even consider paying, as the quality is nowhere near as good, and I doubt most of your art critic acquaintances could match his quality!

The Kelly was apparently offered up in 2018 by LOTG but did not open at 3K it seems. In 2022 the same consignor sold the N162 Anson for 7200 with LOTG. Maybe the hobby loves the Anson more than the Kelly but that shows appreciation in a 4 year period.
