Default Deion Sanders and Colorado

Deion is great for college sports and he is doing wonders with Colorado
But today he got a little does of reality being down 35-0 at half time.

Ouch…

Deion will be the first to declare himself a genius when he's winning. I want to see how he handles things if his team ends up with a losing record for a couple of years.

Now Colorado is down 42-0 and just punted again. They aren't even competitive, not even counting the score.

Yah but Colorado's best player got cheap shot'd last week and was out.

Took a vicious hit, lacerated liver. Whatever the hell that is, but sounds awful.

Here was the hit if you missed it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78VDr6Lr-20

Not that they would have beaten Oregon with him, but would have been closer. Plays both sides of the ball so was like losing 2 starters.

Elsewhere in College Football:

Clemson's Death Valley has been re-tagged Discomfort Valley.

The ways he runs his mouth, he's an easy guy to root against. But a lot of his message is positive. Wish he would tone the volume down a few notches.

I hope he doesn't. He's authentic and I wouldn't want him to be a toned down version of himself. And look, he got humiliated, he owned it, and he was complementary towards the other team and their coach who had dissed him.

I think he sometimes fans the winds of racial controversy unnecessarily. Everytime a reporter questions him or challenges him, it doesn't need to be a racial matter. Too many times I've seen go out of his way to be divisive. He's entitled to his own opinions of course.

I haven't seen that but I'll take you at your word and if that's the case I agree, I think or at least hope we are at the point where a black coach can succeed without it having to be about race.

The only thing that I don't like about Prime is how he blew out all the old players at Colorado. Call me old school, but that's not really fair to amateur student athletes.

As far as what he's done with the new players, he is an exhilarating and life changing positive.

Next week is the next big test. If they beat USC they probably jump back into top 25 and are relevant for the season lose it and it will be a long season for them

As for him being loud that is part of his brand and people love and/or hate him for it but it is his brand

Hard to fault him, he obviously was brought in to revamp the football program and he took advantage of the opportunities available.

He's coaching in Colorado, a state not exactly known for it's diversity. He is just the fourth black head coach of a program that has existed since 1890 and all four black head coaches have been hired since 2010.

If you think Colorado is not exactly known for its diversity, drive over the border into Wyoming.

I was just giving what I thought might be a little context for why he may feel the way he does there.

Deion had admitted a few days prior to the game that they need OL and DL badly.

Colorado isn't quite there to play with the big boys yet.

You realize Colorado has hired more Black Head Coaches than any other Power 5 school?

He actually only told about 25 of the players they would not be a fit for the team, the others all decided to leave. There are a number of players who stayed and are playing. He even has one of the walkon players who stayed featured in his Almond Commercial so they get some NIL money as a reward for working hard and not quiting.

His style may be uncomfortable for some, but he has given a fan base some hope and made Colorado football relevant for the first time in 20 years.

Goal this year is to get to a bowl game.

I was thinking similarly. I do not believe Ohio State, Michigan and Alabama have ever had a black head coach, although I could be wrong. Same for USC if you exclude an interim coach after a mid-season firing. Texas and Oklahoma have had one each, I believe.

Michigan just had Mike Hart coach the UNLV game because Harbaugh was suspended. Sort of counts maybe.

All I know is Prime Time made Colorado relevant in both football and a National brand again.
There was an article that Deion has already helped bring in almost $100 million in extra revenue and Tv exposure and the university is seeing an uptick in student interest in the college.
So he is living up to the hype. And to make Colorado relevant while still building/rebuilding the football team is amazing.
To see stars at their game amazing. And to see them ranked even for a short time after a 1 game win last season is not to bad

It's all good as long as it's about football and the university and not too heavy on the race card.

He certainly can comment on the lack of black coaches in football and everywhere else. The NFL is a league basically carried by the efforts of black men and there have been shockingly few black coaches. Sure college is the same, though I barely follow it.

My only point was a person saying your team is nowhere as good as you think it is is not making a sweeping statement on black men running football teams, and to interpret it that way is entirely unnecessary.

Default Pee-on

I've always found Pee-on Deon to be an arrogant little ass dating back to his playing days. Maybe this blow-out will take him down a notch, but likely not.

A lot of people who have worked with him in baseball, football and the media like him a lot. I suspect a lot of the bombast is just a put on. Seems like a guy who cares about people.

It was and it wasn't. Score ended up close, but USC was well ahead most of the game. Still, a respectable showing against a top power. The defense isn't very good but an explosive offense.

Gut check time for sure. Different stakes for sure, but kind of up there with the Falcons.

It must really get to arguably the best pass defender of all time when his guys can't cover anyone.

I was kind of rooting for Deion and Colorado, but now I'm not so sure. Deion and Shedeur are making it easy for people to want to see them fail after these social media battles that are unbecoming of players of their supposed stature.

Deion is talking a lot of smack for the coach a 4-8 team, and Shedeur may be talking himself out of the first round -- if he were ever there to begin with. He's coming across like Johnny Manziel, even though Manziel was a better player in college.

Default Deion Sanders

I am totally unsurprised that the Colorado football program is a disaster. Their
games should be on MTV. Sanders has always had a big mouth and a "look
at me" attitude. I haven't looked once and that streak of complete lack of
interest will continue.

Yup, same here. They're thin skinned bullies. We got a lot of them nowadays, and they all seem to love social media, because their bully driven sycophants also love social media.

It's one thing for a grown man to come into a program and force scholarships away from a bunch of teenagers. You can argue that's perhaps part of his job...as slimy as it might be. It's another to follow that young man around and sic your followers/progeny on him when he expresses his frustration at the circumstance that was forced upon him by "the business"...of college football.

Spencer Rattler supposedly fell pretty far in the draft simply because there's lots of footage out there of him acting like a full on *sshole to his high school team-mates.....5 something years ago.

Ultimately talent will decide where you get drafted, but if Shedeur is showing this kind of immaturity in College, I'm not sure how he's going to be perceived as a possible NFL QB.

I plead ignorant on what his talent level may be, and scouts may accept that type of personalities from other positions on the field...but not sure they want it in their QB.

That type of behavior can also get you hurt on the football field, I think. I always think of Jeremy Shockey, after the Giants drafted him as a Tight End. He could be an electric player at his position, but he was sooo unlikable, and chirped at his opponents so much...you could see defensive players loading up on him and trying to hurt him at every opportunity. Late hits, cheap shots, you name it.

Shockey was a tough guy, and he took it in stride and didn't miss a ton of games...but you could tell he was playing hurt for most of his career.

It's one thing being cocky and confident, on and off the field. It's another to be to real d*ckhead all the time.
