Default Share your Cincinnati Reds cards

I would like to see some other vintage Reds cards out there. Here are a few of mine. The hard to find oddball items interest me the most especially those of Johnny Bench. I have been trying to find a 1968 Bench postcard in decent condition for a long time.

Here is a 1967 rookie Bench postcard.

Here is a 1975 Hostess panel with Pete Rose.

Here is a 1972 Topps Test Candy Lids Johnny Bench

Default 1940 Team Issue #(35). . . Does it exist?

As long as you're sifting through your Reds cards, can anybody confirm the existence of the card checklisted in the 1940 Cincinnati Reds Team Issue as
(35) in the Standard Catalog . . . "Debt of Gratitude to Wm. Koeh Co."?

Otherwise it gets de-listed.

Thank you Bob- I've been searching for any evidence of this card for years, and not only have never seen one but can't see anyway it could've existed.
Here's a full press sheet of the '40 W711-2 set

Default That sheet also calls into question . . .

some of the other the cards listed as #30-34. Seems the checklist may have doubled up on them. Do yo have scans of the back of the sheet in that area?

Bob- I've got the variations in single cards as well, if you need scans of those are bigger scans of the sheet let me know.
It seems pretty easy to see where they overprinted the variations on the 2nd print run. But I can't see where they would cut out a card and strip in the "debt of gratitude" card.
I've bought about a dozen complete sets and they seem pretty evenly split between the 2 sets of variation- if the "debt" card was in one press run or another it would seem to pop up at some point, and another card would be in shorter supply, but that has never happened. And the pops on the other cards are consistant, while the debt card has never been graded by either PSA or SGC.

Default 1948-49 Mabley and Carew Reds

Here are some Mabley and Carew photos from 1948 and 1949. The Johnny Vandermeer came with the envelope displayed. If anybody can tell me more about this set, I'd appreciate it. The players shown here are as follows: Vandermeer, Harry Walker, Herm Wehmeier, Ken Raffensberger and Howie Fox. I have a few more as well, and like Wehmeier and Fox, several others have images that were used in the 1950 Bowman set. They also have markings on the back that indicate they were produced by the Reds, just like the photos they issued for decades ...

Not that these are rare by any stretch, but here is my collection of rookie cards for the key members of the Big Red Machine (plus their manager and the announcer for good measure)

What exactly is the Bench/Wills sticker? Is there a corrected version saying "Bump" Wills?

Default Bench/Wills

David---the SCD Standard Catalog lists that item as a Topps 1980 Sticker prototype. It lists 4 other dual player prototype stickers, none of which I have ever seen. The checklist notes the error of Maury versus Bump. The description says the photos come from earlier covers of SI. It says the evidence that these items are Topps products is anecdotal. Maybe Bob Lemke can weigh in with more.

It maybe similar to this circa 1977 item, which I also have and which also purports to show a well know Red, and may also be or not be a Topps prototype item...with similar type errors

Those puffy stickers are interesting. Only Reggie Jackson is correct, the rest are either made up players, or have wrong info.

Where did you get them?

David---bought this item from a dealer in Norcross, Georgia many years back

All the errors make me think it may be a legitimate prototype item. If someone was creating a fake why would they make such a mess

Or maybe designed for a market where they don't follow baseball much (Europe, Asia....), hence only Reggie is pictured correctly, as he was probably world famous in the late 70's?

I was recently able to purchase this super rare 1971 Bazooka "Numbered" panel with Johnny Bench. Eventually I believe I will crack open and recut the top border as it is very uneven.

Really nice pickup. After you trim it do you plan on resubmitting it for grading?

This HOFer was a "Virginia Gentleman" most of the time, except after a defeat, when he would smash the water cooler, etc.
