A Ruth is like an all-access pass. Welcome in any era's new pickup thread. Congrats! Am hoping mine turns out half that nice.

Default 1952 Topps #175 - Billy Martin

Just added a new addition to my collection. It fits in with my "popular NY players and characters" division.

Look at those ears....never noticed that when he managed Detroit.

Nice card, Jerry! One of my favorite Ted Williams cards. Classic.

Some more recent rookie pick-ups. I decided to go for the mini's. I usually crack out any cards after 1969 (unless over-sized and can't fit in top-loaders) but I can't seem to figure out the PSA cases for the Brett and Yount. The Carter was in a PSA 7 holder and the Rice came out of a 7.5 SGC holder.

Love that Ted and Munson. And is there any set more star packed and HOF rookie packed than 75? Awesome.

Here are two cards of lefties that are TOUGH to find centered... I love the shirt Koufax is wearing, and the whole image is just pure cool. Steve Carlton's first solo card was also the one CCP price guide used in the 80's for the 67 set, which brings back such fond memories. I never knew why he had no 66 card.

1969 Transogram Joe Torre side panel, hand cut. PSA 9. Total population, 1.
I couldn't resist adding it to my Joe Torre collection.

Thanks guys, I know #53 is the most sought after, probably because it's a little more rare. But I just like the look of #144 so much more. Definitely a holy grail type card for me.

Damn, your switch-hitting? Sometimes i get in a rut, and sway sometimes to pre-war (like i did my 2 cobbs-red/green)
Gorgous 4 there of Ruth. Suprised you didnt get a Mantle, or did you have one? i forget, sorry i get folks mixed up sometimes.

The 52 Mantle is at the top of my want list. I came close on a couple that have sold recently and could have gotten one for the money I have spent recently but not quite the quality that I want. I passed on the last couple of authentic 52s that were sold off of this board and Ebay. I did just buy a 51 Bowman mantle though.

My collection is not very focused right now, I've recently bought a couple nice pre-war and post-war cards. I've just been picking up cards I've always wanted regardless of era.

And Matt those two look great next to each other. I'm sure I'll have to add #53 at some point, as well as a green and red Cobb. I can only imagine opening on of these packs 80 years ago. I don't even know how many cards came in a pack, but have to wonder if it was possible to pull multiple Ruths out of the same pack.

I think both are equally awesome-- and would definitely bet that collectors who get one have designs on landing both at some point. It's like Brett RC almost needs a Yount RC beside it. 41 Play Ball DiMaggio and Ted Williams is a case of 1 + 1 = a million, too. The two yellow Goudey Ruths are definitely like that for me. I have daydreams of what it must have been like to pull these from packs-- what they must have looked like right out of the pack!!!!!
