Found this gift BIN on eBay pop right before my eyes this morning! Always wanted one of these, but the 72s are woeful so often; this was the best I've come across, and the price for the grade made it a steal.

Nice card as always! I suspect yesterday’s bombshell will keep Rose out of the Hall for all of our lifetimes, and there will be some drop to his card prices as collectors no longer can hope to see a return upon induction. To me this is one of the saddest stories in sports...that such a great player could derail his career and legacy so badly.

I do hope many guys holding centered Rose early issues were doing so hoping for that HOF value bump-- and now they should dump them at once to us collectors who don't care about that angle, LOL.

Personally, I've always liked so many of his cards just for the look and the great on field performer depicted. I didn't find yesterday's news to be a bombshell, since I think many people like me already felt the allegations were true (that he bet on his team to win) without needing corroborating materials.

I look at him kind of like Shoeless, in that he's an iconic collectible player with our without the votes of a bunch of "writers." I use that latter term loosely, since I don't put any real stock into the politics and subjectivity of HOF voting myself.

Anything where human subjectivity and opinion comes into play, be it voting for the HOF or even card grading, I take with a grain of salt It simply comes down to liking a baseball card, its image, its state of condition, and its player, for whatever reason.

It's a pre-war card but figured I'd post it here too. Perhaps I can get back in the running for best month. Not the holy grail but very happy with the card.

Huge card-- congrats! I just adore the #53 and #144 Goudey Ruths! Cornerstones of a collection.

A Ruth is like an all-access pass. Welcome in any era's new pickup thread. Congrats! Am hoping mine turns out half that nice.

Thanks guys, I know #53 is the most sought after, probably because it's a little more rare. But I just like the look of #144 so much more. Definitely a holy grail type card for me.

Damn, your switch-hitting? Sometimes i get in a rut, and sway sometimes to pre-war (like i did my 2 cobbs-red/green)
Gorgous 4 there of Ruth. Suprised you didnt get a Mantle, or did you have one? i forget, sorry i get folks mixed up sometimes.

I think both are equally awesome-- and would definitely bet that collectors who get one have designs on landing both at some point. It's like Brett RC almost needs a Yount RC beside it. 41 Play Ball DiMaggio and Ted Williams is a case of 1 + 1 = a million, too. The two yellow Goudey Ruths are definitely like that for me. I have daydreams of what it must have been like to pull these from packs-- what they must have looked like right out of the pack!!!!!

In my own Ruthquest, 181 is the only one I'm not looking at. There's kind of a grumpiness and lumpyness to the pic that I'm not into whereas the other three seem to be classic Ruth poses.

The 52 Mantle is at the top of my want list. I came close on a couple that have sold recently and could have gotten one for the money I have spent recently but not quite the quality that I want. I passed on the last couple of authentic 52s that were sold off of this board and Ebay. I did just buy a 51 Bowman mantle though.

My collection is not very focused right now, I've recently bought a couple nice pre-war and post-war cards. I've just been picking up cards I've always wanted regardless of era.

And Matt those two look great next to each other. I'm sure I'll have to add #53 at some point, as well as a green and red Cobb. I can only imagine opening on of these packs 80 years ago. I don't even know how many cards came in a pack, but have to wonder if it was possible to pull multiple Ruths out of the same pack.

Had been in the market for a nice looking 64 Maris for under $20. Saw so many with really awful L/R centering along the way. A year later...

BTW, am wondering if there is a story behind the Munson since the Yanks weren't allowed to have beards back then. Would Munson have been fined for this pic? Did he do it just to piss off the Boss?

Thanks. I was really, really patient. But sometimes I do question myself when there's something I want but let it go because it's 5-10 dollars more than I hoped to spend. Took me a year on this card when several as nice could have been had so much quicker for 25-30. Maybe a bit irrational, but I know it makes sense to many fellow collectors.

Whether you're spending $5 or a few thousand or a few hundred thousand you need to be happy with the value you're getting. Nothing wrong with holding out for a good price. Especially if there are other options available.

Some more recent rookie pick-ups. I decided to go for the mini's. I usually crack out any cards after 1969 (unless over-sized and can't fit in top-loaders) but I can't seem to figure out the PSA cases for the Brett and Yount. The Carter was in a PSA 7 holder and the Rice came out of a 7.5 SGC holder.

Love that Ted and Munson. And is there any set more star packed and HOF rookie packed than 75? Awesome.

Here are two cards of lefties that are TOUGH to find centered... I love the shirt Koufax is wearing, and the whole image is just pure cool. Steve Carlton's first solo card was also the one CCP price guide used in the 80's for the 67 set, which brings back such fond memories. I never knew why he had no 66 card.

Pretty sure it was meant in jest; our boy Chris had the kind of month every collector dreams of with Nolans and the Mays. Browsing all the cards in this thread is a real treat. So many absolute jewels. How rare is it just to see examples like that Musial and Maris or that 52 Mick with such centering! That 56 card that looks like a 10. Milton Bradley trophy cup Carew! Venezuelan Mick, Torre RC, that Bowman Furillo (my late grandfather's favorite), a centered Aaron RC, Aaron HR Derby! That Herb Score 61 that looks Gem, a Wilson Franks, that Al Oliver Auto, that 62 Clemente, the best centered 63 Mick ever, that quad shot with freak centered 58 Mays and 67 Rose, that yellow 58 Ted, the Bowman 50 Ted that is a 5 in a 2 holder-- and that's just what I remember from this month off the cuff LOL.

What an unbelievable month to be a card lover and be on this thread. This is really the nexus and epicenter of cards online. To be able to see all that stuff here in one place in ANY condition, that's really special. It's easy to forget that day to day. But looking back at how choice each example is, looking so much better than the tech grade-- just DAMN! Now I got the fever and gotta scour the bay!

I commented on this in an earlier post but I too took it as a joke. I don't think anyone feels this is a competition, just a place to share cards we're excited about picking up.

Wow! Some amazing pickups this month!

As for me, a beautiful '55 Matthews Semi High# for a steal! A really big pickup for a low budget collector like me

As the original poster of the "you won the month!" comment, I can attest that there is no formal competition here. We all get the win by sharing our collecting experiences.

Thanks to the Mick's switch-hitting, the 64 and 66 Mantle side by side are almost mirror images. Pretty cool.

Great centering. Looks much nicer than the grade. Congrats on a fine addition to your collection
