Yes, very! I spent many hours before the season started trying to find out who had season tickets and who did not. Then the ones that don't you need to cover yourself for those games. I went and bought tickets to many games to ensure I would have them. The big blow was the Nationals. They stopped printing season tickets 3 years ago. But as a courtesy to the season ticket holders they would print them box office style if they asked. This year, no dice. I ordered tickets online but they, as some other teams do, let Tickets.com handle the online sales. No one likes a Tickets.com ticket. its like a Ticketmaster, no team logos. I tried to find someone who live near the ballpark to buy me tickets at the window. I couldn't find anyone in time so I drove 3 hours down and 3 hours back in the snow and sleet to buy half a seasons worth of tickets at the window so I'd have mine. That sucked. Some teams that have season tickets are still tough to find people to sell you one! I am having trouble finding a Reds season ticket holder who will sell me a few tickets that I may need this year.

Randall...Thanks you made my goal of a ticket for every 1971 Pirate home and away game seem less daunting when compared to what you are trying to accomplish.

I've been collecting McGwire homeruns the longest, maybe 15 years. Still need 26 more tickets. This type of collecting is not for people who like instant gratification. At first it seems like you will finish quickly because you are doing bulk deals for tickets. But after a while it turns to a trickle. Then nothing for a long time. You need to network with other ticket collectors, ask everyone about tickets, advertise, etc. Now when you find one ticket you need it is exciting!

I like taking on a big challenge. I know several collectors who have taken on bigger undertakings. Scott Garner who is on Net54 is collecting all Nolan Ryan game tickets. I also know of two guys collecting all Ripken streak games. Another collecting all Pete Rose hits. Another doing all Carlton Fisk games played. They are in it for the long haul.

Fortunately the ticket collector community is pretty friendly and networking with special collectors like Randall and Tony Swann (the Carlton Fisk collector that Randall referenced) is the only way that you will ever come close to completing crazy projects like these! Thanks Randall!
BTW, if you want to be mind blown, please check out Tony Swann's carltonfisk.com website. It's unreal!

I started out collecting tickets to Nolan Ryan pitched games in 1972 and thought it would be neat to find perhaps 100 of them.
Meanwhile, 44 years later I'm currently up to 753/807 of Nolan's regular season games plus his All Star appearances and post season games with the Mets.

Those of you that know me on net54 also know that I also collect the no-hitter theme, which was an offspring of Nolan Ryan becoming The No-Hit King with 7 career no-hitters. Currently I own tickets to 202 different official and unofficial no-hitters dating back to 1901. Chasing the current no-hitter game tickets is becoming a challenge because of the e-ticket fiasco that Randall described perfectly.

Default 1866 Base Ball Victorian era dance invitation

I was thrilled to pick this up from Scott Roberts on the BST this month.
Now that it's in hand, I've got to say that this is one of my favorite early baseball items that I own.
Thanks Scott!

Very cool, Scott! Where was the Elfin Base Ball Club located?

I can't help but admire your ambition in this project. It's about love of the game. You, Sir, are the kind of collector I would want to see succeed in every way.

I will keep my eye out for older tickets that fill your needs.

Keep posting (that goes for the Aaron collected too) thanks for sharing.

1971 World Series Key Ring from Balfour... I've been looking for one of these for a long time. I now have the press pins, cufflinks, tie bar, and watch. The world series ring is out of my reach at this time. Does any know if Balfour made a money clip for the 1971 Pirates world series?

Mike,

Would love to see a picture of all those items you mentioned above displayed together. Also, do you collect the O's versions as well to go along with the Pirates?

Q: Did they make a salesman sample/s of the Pirates WS ring? That may be an alternative to purchasing a player/team rep version. I know I have a '70 O's SS ring so possibly they made them as well for the '71 Pirates.

I'm unsure about the money clip...

By the way, the key ring is very cool!

Thanks Mark, I'll post them later. Other than the press pins I only have the Pirate versions of these items. I have seen salesman samples of the ring but even they seem too pricey.

Thanks, Joe & Copa7 (Sorry, I don't know your actual name).
My Nolan Ryan and no-hit ticket collections are truly a labor of love. That's what 44 years of collecting a theme will do for you.

If it was easy, it wouldn't be a challenge.

Just picked this up. I like the tie in with the 1914 World Series with Mack and Stallings.
