Funny story about Griffey finest refractor. I went into my childhood LCS after these had come out. Hadn't been there in awhile but out of boredom I stopped in. They had Griffey finest in display case for $25. I asked the owner about it and he told me it was called a refractor and they were extremely rare. I bit and bought it. So for about 15 years or so I thought I had this super cool refractor card but turned out it was just regular one.

It's possible the owner was misinformed even though he was shady as hell sometimes, but that was last time I got to go there.

A griffey refractor was worth a lot more than 25 bucks even back then. He knew what he had. A base griffey selling for 25 bucks when that set came out is not surprising though. I probably would have bought it back then if I had the money.

Neal

This may be something you may want to look at (if you haven't already). Topps has been putting out a product called Archives that has 90s cards with autos. They have put out a few of Griffey Jr.

Thanks, Jantz.
Will check em out

This arrived yesterday. Nothing huge, but a nice shiny, distraction to postwar cards!

I also like 90s atomic refractors ! Nice card . Is the preview like a promo or something ?

I really was a fan of the 90s atomic refractors from football .

It's worth next to nothing but this is my favorite Griffey card.

I just picked up a PSA10 Griffey UD 2nd year error card with no copyright on the back. I never knew this card existed till recent, but had to own it. It has a low pop of only 17. Here is a link if you guys arent familiar with it. This card is not mine...just a random one on eBay.

Peter Max has long been a favorite artist, so when I saw the 1997 Topps Gallery cards I wanted one of the signed cards. They are pretty outrageous, though, so i figured to get one of the crappier players (Albert Belle, anyone?), but I got really lucky on this auction:

Fun factoid: Max signed the cards before the coating was applied.

Well, he signed the numbered ones before the gloss was applied. There are a lot of those signed after the fact.

I'm not a Griffey collector per se but I will share these sentimental cards that were among the first I ever assembled into books, as a kid :

Ugh, this pains me to see. I had a nice Griffey collection with many of those same cards, plus some really nice Jeter, Pujols rookies, signed cards I had gotten TTM, etc., but when I moved during college my mom put my card binders out in the garage, on the floor, and of course in Florida, it floods when storms hit. Needless to say, the cards were ruined. I'm still traumatized.

Bummer about the cards in the garage. You can always start again though!

Here's one I grabbed a month or so ago.
