I'll take these two. Confirm by email and I'll send PayPal. Then you can toss them in with my other package.

Thanks for the offer Denny but I'll have to decline. I've always made a policy to never bet with an Irishman!! Also, I've learned it's never wise to bet on someone other than yourself..... I have been debating about starting a Super Ultimate Trade Up thread where I will start with a 1988 Donruss Frank Viola with my sights on a Wagner t206. If I decide to pursue such an endeavor I may be willing to go against my better judgement and make a wager with you.

Because we all need a good laugh. It is way better than being in the BST section and constantly getting bumped over members actually trying to sell their item(s).

I am still not sure if Stephen is a long time employee of a card shop, someone that has no idea what they are buying and returning all the items he paid pennies on the dollar for that turned out not to be worth 50X what he paid, a guy trying to sell some stuff to buy a new house, or someone trying to trade up from a few 100 dollar card to a 52 Topps Mickey Mantle.

No matter what is going on you have to give him props for using the main page to advance his personal goals. Plus lets not forget his spamming this thread to every single section of this forum. Not just anybody can get away with that.

Now if this post does not make you at least smile you have no sense of humor.

Apparently a number of members find this to be an absolutely fascinating sociological study into human economic decision making. Sure.

It's not even a trade up. It's trade me a bunch of cards for something and then I will spend weeks trying to sell them.

Mantle card expected sometime in 2071.

As an old grown crybaby old enough to be your grandfather, I would merely add that we have been called "Boys" by you repeatedly. You should not be surprised.

I enjoy dealing with Stephen. Long week and even though I shouldn't have, I snagged the Shag from him. He's easy to deal with, and has been before.

For y'all complaining that this is on the front page, why do you insist on clicking the thread title and commenting? It's on the front page because it's an ongoing adventure, not a sales thread. Are transactions taking place? Yes. But it's fun to watch what he's able to turn stuff into. If you don't like the thread, don't comment. Hell, don't even read it. Quit poking little holes in this guy's fun.

Good luck Stephen!

Same. I've dealt with him 3-4x now. Super easy transactions. Fast payments. As "men", a lot of you guys are really embarrassing and act like high school girls. Seriously. Just don't click on the f'n page; it's that simple! Even if I had no transactions with him, I'd still like to see how this pans out. Some of you complain about everything!

Bunch of grumpy old dudes discouraging millenials from doing something challenging and creative haha what's new. As many others have stated, how hard is to scroll past one thread out of dozens on the front page? There are plenty of unfunny, random and pointless threads started by some people that have nothing to do with vintage cards. To me this is a fun ongoing thread and it'll be interesting to see how far he gets. Keep it up Stephen, thanks again for the Jackie

So you want the COMPLAINING to stop......And you're trying to achieve this by COMPLAINING about the supposed COMPLAINERS??

I'm sorry but, oh the irony! This thread is hilarious.

If those complaining just ignored the thread and chose not to participate then there wouldn't be anyone complaining. Problem solved

I personally check this thread everyday or so. A little because it’s interesting to read the comments about this thread is terrible and he’s trying to rip people off. Well the real sellers trying to rip people off are eBay fixed price listing.…right?

Mostly I try to see if he has something I REALLY want were I’m willing to pay a bit more. He’s collecting and trading for a certain goal and seems willing to work with people. Remember those words “collecting and trading.” Something we all grew up doing long before eBay.

The only thing I can grip about this thread is the cards offered are mostly small cards, except Ruth & Johnson. Remember, if you’re wanting a decent ’52 Mantle, go big are go home!

I think this is an interesting point. I think there would be a lot more interest, and far fewer detractors, if one nice card was flipped for a slightly nicer card, which is turned into a slightly bigger card, etc. I would be fascinated by that. The current path is that a big card is flipped for multiple low grade commons, which are traded for similar cards or offered up in a fire sale, etc. I personally find the path hard to follow. But maybe that's the only feasible way to achieve the goal. I think it would be awesome if the OP could achieve this, but I understand those who think that watching the journey might be a bit cumbersome.

To me this is a fun ongoing thread and it'll be interesting to see how far he gets. Keep it up Stephen, thanks again for the Jackie

After all this, what is left to flip?

I agree that trading one for one would be easier to follow, and likely make a more interesting read. But perhaps I am a just another grumpy old guy who can only track one thing at a time.

In any case, as someone that does not own a '52 Topps Mantle, I watch with intrigue as to whether he can do it, and a touch of envy if he does achieve his goal.

One thing for sure, I won't be around in 2071 if that ends up being the final date.

I'm a grumpy old man- well, only 64 but unquestionably grouchy, but I do have a couple of observations to share.

I don't know Stephen but he seems like a genuinely good guy and I appreciate his enthusiasm for the hobby. But I'm not sure he's getting any closer to his goal. He trades commons for HOfers, then trades HOFers for more commons, and I don't know if that will ever get him a 52 Mantle. Plus, with the price of the card increasing dramatically, I don't even think he is keeping up with inflation. For every $100 score he makes, the 52 Mantle becomes $200 more expensive.

Also, why is this on the main page? At the end of the day, Stephen is just a guy trying to add a great card to his collection. Isn't that what everyone is trying to do? If I'm saving up to buy a Wagner, but need to sell a lot of cards to afford it, can I do so on the main page? Seems like this is a BST issue.

Anyway, sorry to be so grumpy. Just my three cents.

Hey Barry,
You misspelled (typo) enthusiasm.
The questions you raise were answered long ago in this thread. It is on the front page because the original poster (hey Stephen) asked if it could be and was told it was ok. It is a vintage card experiment that has some entertainment value. It is one thread on the front page out of 35. There is no harm in it and most likely other threads like it wouldn't be allowed again, at least very soon. It's baseball cards....We should be happy for Stephen to give it a try (hey Stephen) even though I have to agree, he has a big time uphill battle. I still think he ends up with some '87 Donruss...

Thanks. I fixed it.

With all due respect, I've collected on and off for 35 years, and my goal was ALWAYS to trade up- tried to trade something smaller for something better. It's fine that you gave Stephen this forum, but what he is doing really isn't that unique. Again, wish him well and hope he achieves his goal.

Never said it was unique, just fun. And I think we need more and not less so if an off topic thread, which isn't that far off topic though in the wrong section, can give a lot of members fun in watching it, I am just not sure what the big deal is. And it was stated very early on this isn't going to be allowed too often for all of the reasons mentioned. So the "precedent" and "what if everyone does it" retorts have been addressed. Of course we all do this type of thing but probably not in public and play by play.... I think it's interesting watching it.
It's one thread, it just can't be that bad. BTW, hope all is well your way too...

Wow, over 32,000 views on this thread. In its own way, a vivid indication of how popular Mickey Mantle still is, in particular his beautiful 1952 Topps trading card. ---Brian Powell

Or it's an indication of how people will stare at a train wreck.

LOL, isn't that the truth. His posts are something to behold.

To be fair I have made one purchase and done 1 trade with Stephen and both went perfectly.
