Awesome Wagner Larry. Question- is the Wagner picture not the same exact one (except uniform) as the e91 tinker?

Great year for collecting. T205 Cubs front/reverse set is now at 144/151 posible card. Remaining cards are tough or expensive so hope to add a coule of cards next year.
Also sold my W572 strip set of 106/121 cards through Heritage. Still have a complete uncut strip as a keepsake. Probably less money spent on Ebay as I do not plan on starting another project. But who knows when the bug will bite.

I always love looking at past "goals" thread to see how my interests have evolved over time. Here is last year's thread to help remind everyone.
Here were my 2017 goals, per that thread: (1) Finish my T209-1 set (currently 15/16). Achieved - I finally picked up a McGeehan and completed my first prewar set! (2) Add 2-4 more N28 or N162 baseball players. Achieved - I picked up N28 Caruthers and Comiskey, and N162 Andrews. (3) Add 10-20 cards to my T205 set (currently 77/208). Achieved - I added 26 cards, including 2 HOFers and 3 SP/Variations. Now at 103/208. (4) Add a reasonable amount of cards to my other sets without going completely overboard. Mostly Achieved, although "going completely overboard" is subject to some interpretation. I picked up 30 E92-family cards, which are my new hobby love. However, I made very little progress on my E121, 1934 Goudey, and 1953 Bowman sets, which are now firmly on the backburner. (5) DON'T CARRY A PAYPAL CREDIT BALANCE! Achieved!...although it took me well into the year to get to this point. In addition to these, one of my big achievements of the year was to deal with how I collect modern cards. (Skip ahead ye who hate shiny things.) Although prewar is my main focus, I do like collecting some modern cards to keep me connected to the modern game. However, I was getting overrun with volume, and my collection was completely directionless. I ended up selling 99% of my cards, and decided to focus exclusively on Bowman Chrome & Topps Chrome blue refractors of star players' prospect and RC cards. I have about 60 cards in this collection at the moment, and am very happy to have narrowed my focus there. My top five collecting goals for 2018 will be - (1) Add one more N28 and one more N162. (2) Add 15-20 more T205s, hopefully including Cobb, WaJo, or Young. (3) Add 15-20 more E92-family cards, including at least one new back. (4) Add 20 more modern prospect/RC blue refractors. (5) Save more money and spend less on cards (the hardest goal, of course). Happy collecting to everyone in 2018!

For 2017:
1. Work to finish 1934 Goudey. Got to 95/96. Still need the blue Lou. 2. Have a come to Jesus meeting with myself on what to collect next. T205 is calling my name, but I want to pare down my collection first to make space/funds for it. Got to 35 ish T205s before shifting focus. Now actively working 1969 Topps and 1953 Bowman. 3. Break the grip that my old commons have on me from the 80s and find them another home. Done. Otis got the cream, and little leaguers got the rest. 4. Write at least one more player bio for SABR. Contributed to two SABR books, one of which published in 2017. For 2018: 1. Finish 69T. 2. Buy a 53B Mantle. Work on the set a little. 3. Buy cards I like from sets I'll never finish. I've always wanted a Shigeo Nagashima card! 4. Have fun.

Here's a link to last year's list for those who want to play along. I know I always enjoy looking back at mine and seeing how I did, and what unexpected turns my collecting took over the year.
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...60#post1610760 My goals for 2017: 1. Finish my Obak slogan run Done! 2. '41 PB - get at least one of Teddy or Joe, if not both Got Joe, still looking for Teddy 3. Get to 40% on my T205 base set (currently at 27%) I've come to a grinding halt on this set - will circle back at some point 4. Add two T3 HOFers to my set to get me to 50% (currently at 48/100) Added Bresnahan and Matty 5. NOT START ANY MORE SETS!!! I somehow managed to accomplish this, which was my major feat for 2017 Goals for 2018: 1. Get my PB Williams for completion 2. '37 Goudey Thum Movie Medick for completion 3. Pick up 4 Diamond Stars Hi #'s (currently have 1/12) 4. Add five T3s to my set 5. NOT START ANY MORE SETS!!!

Very good collecting year!
After having a down year in 2016, 2017 started out with a bang for me. I had a very solid collecting year for 2017.
In January, I added a large photo of Claude Berry, which originated from his estate. The photo was the source photo used in his 1912 Home Run Kisses card. I added a couple of colored S74 silks in January and February of Red Dooin and Bill Bergen, respectively. I have been slowly working on a project showing all of the catchers that have both a colored S74s silk and a T205. Need just a couple of S74 silks to complete my run of catchers in the colored S74 set, namely Peaches Graham and Admiral Schlei. They are on my 2018 wantlist. In March, I picked up a Peaches Graham E90-1 for an incredible price. In April, I picked up an Ade Thoss T210-6 to complete my run of catchers "wearing chest protectors" in the T210 Old Mill set. May's highlight was picking up a Chief Meyers art photo. Picked up quite a few of the catchers in the P2 pin set this year, and also added a bunch of T205. In addition, I added a super nice BF2 of Chief Meyers in November. Modest goals for 2018: Looking to add a few S74 catcher silks, a few T202 Chief Meyers Triple Folders, perhaps a T207 Irving Lewis. In 2016 I hoped to get at least two of my 7 "B List" Old Judge players in 2017.
Through great fortune I managed to land an "A List" player (Jordan) and two "B List" players (Sowders and Davis) as well as a bonus HOFer (Duffy). There are still 10 players on my "A List" and 5 players on my "B List," but almost all of them now are pipe dreams. I'll consider myself extremely lucky in 2018 to knock off two "B List" players in the coming 12 months, but I'll even settle for a couple of nice commons these days. |

It was another great year with many additions and a few new hobby friends made. Best pickup to me was the T210-4 Dougherty I needed to finish off that Series set.
As far as 2018 goals I dont think I will cross off any major goals or finish off another Series. Unless a big lot becomes available at the right time. Im content just plugging along another year |

*I'd like to add two new signed HOF'ers, and add 10 or so others was not able to add any HOF cards sell the duplicates and cards that dont fit my goals! sold a few, but bought a ton I did add about 15 more, all tough names, including zoldak who passed in 66 and is very tough. 1/2 graded though mine is badly trimmed. I'm Down to just 31 cards for completion 2018 goals Add 5 new cards including one hofer Sell duplicates and others in my sell pile Down to just 2 low numbers to finish 1-310 but prices have been astronomical. I'm embarrassed to post in this thread after the stuff everybody is putting up. But to put my embarrassment into perspective, I just got into vintage cards in August when I picked up my first.
I didn't have any goals coming into 2017. But I did sell out of all of my modern cards, with the exception of my 2 PCs (Tyrell Jenkins and Rickey Dudley) and Rangers collection. The Rangers collection will be going as well as soon as I can figure out the best way to move it. All that said, I picked up my first vintage card in August and now am up to a 3-row shoebox of vintage cards. They're all sorted by year, priced, sleeved and top loaded. I was also able to put together my first vintage set - 1974 Topps baseball. Putting in that final card a few months back felt really nice. But now I'm ready to break it up, sell all the cards and upgrade to another year. I realize I love to put sets together, break them down and try to put together a set that's a little older. My ultimate goal is to get up to a 1957 complete set. So I guess my 2018 goals are just to continue building my vintage collection. I just paid for my biggest card yet - a 1961 Topps Roger Maris. It should be here later this week or early next and will be a good start to my 2018 collecting. I also want to try and piece together another set as I did the '74 set. I wound up spending a grand total of $80 on it by trading modern for some of the bigger names. Will hopefully sell the cards from the '74 set for a profit and use the money to piece together a set from the earlier 70s, possibly late 1960s. As I said, I'm just getting going into vintage and love the trading and upgrading aspect of the hobby. I hope I can continue to do that.

I am still formulating my goals for 2018, but among other things I would like to:
1. Obtain an E107 Delahanty within my budget; 2. Obtain an Old Judge Deacon White; 3. Get a Cracker Jack Matty and Wagner; 4. Upgrade some cards from my Aguilitas Segundas set; 5. Reacquire a couple of Cobb poses I traded away in 2017; and 6. Continue culling my collection and get rid of stuff I'm no longer interested in. My top acquisitions this year are as follows: |

Apparently I didn't make a list of goals for 2017, however, below are my goals for 2018.
1) Finish my e93 set - still looking for a nice lower grade Cobb 2) Add at least 4 more cards to my e92 Nadja set. Currently need 16 to complete the set of known cards. Currently have a lead on 1. 3) Add 1 or 2 more of the harder/more expensive cards to the T222 set such as a Henry, Alexander, Shulte, Magee, etc 4) Add another E92 Red Crofts Candy, Menagerie, or Prizefighter 5) Pick up an M110, T3 top tier HOFer, N566, N142, or similar 6) Add another back to my E/T Young backrun Key pickups in 2017 Added Crawford, Donovan, and 2 of the Beschers this year.

I tend to sell things in order to buy other things I want more at the time, but as I don't generally pick up anything I didn't want in the first place I end up with some holes in my collection checklist that weren't previously there. I'd like to be able to mark some of these off the checklist once again.

My goals for 2018 (t206)would be to pick up 1 of these off of of list and to buy more commons without piedmont and sweet cap backs
- Uzit back - Red Hindu - Cobb bat on(last Cobb needed) I don’t think I had any goals for 2017. My best pickup was a green Cobb along with a few other HOFers and several commons.

My 2018 goal:
Finish 1961 and 1962 Topps sets and maybe fill out my newer sets with Topps factory sets (I know not really in context with this forum, but I wanted to get back to my birth year in full tops sets...have a smattering of earlier sets). Keep an eye out for the illusive T206 Drum Paul Davidson without any expectation to find it. Contemplate my next prewar set...I don't really have enough of a start to seriously point me in any direction though I do have two 1933 Goudey Ruth, making that set a possibility. I will probably let fate decide for me if a good strong starter set shows up on BST. Thus far I have competed (all lowish grade) T205, T206, DeLongs, 1941 DP, 1941 Playball...most all of them because I got a good buy on the start of a set. If nothing strikes my fancy, I'll probably just keep on picking up upper tier HOFers. I also really enjoy oddball 1970s cards. Oh, yeah, and one very important one...I am going to begin reorganizing my cards so i can enjoy them more.

From the 2016 thread: www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=232475
Old 2017 Goals vs Pick-Ups: - N333 Detroit - No - N333 other team - 3 cards! - N172 Detroit (still need many 1888 & 1889 poses) - traded one to obtain one - N173 or N175 Detroit - No With so little card action, I turned to 19th century cigarette packs and redemption coupons. The following is a sample of some of the packs I was able to locate, all being pre-ATC merger (pre-1890) except the A&G Dixie & Old Dominion which date to 1890-1893. I've also accumulated close to 100 redemption coupons with lots of duplicates. I find the coupons to be challenging yet cheap and interesting (help date cards, albums, etc.). And here are my cards, 3 Newsboys and my lone Old Judge, Pete Conway with an interesting back (Mitchell/Barker) that was later sold by Lipset to Miller: 2018 Goals: - N333 Detroit - N333 other team - N172 Detroit (still need many 1888 & 1889 poses) - N173 or N175 Detroit - Pre-ATC Merger Cigarette Pack - Pre-ATC Merger Coupon One from most of these categories would be a fabulous year

I've really enjoyed doing this every year.
2017 Goals: (1) Continue to prune back collection and focus more on tough Ruth cards, trying to obtain 1-2 "big" cards (not necessarily Ruth). The big ones here are that I would like to obtain a 1915 CJ Cobb and a E93/94 Cobb, both with decent eye appeal. Partial Check. I've traded away some big cards (c1915 RPC Babe Ruth, 1922 W575-1 "Babe" Ruth), but I've also picked up some nice ones (M101-6 Ruth (NY), W503 Ruth). Never did pick up any Cobb cards. (2) Continue to make progress on small sets (W519-2, W521, W590). Only picked up one W521 this year, and none of the others. Very slow going. 2018 Goals: This is going to be continue to be more of the same as the last few years. (1) Continue to prune back collection and focus more on tough Ruth cards. I've been able to save up some funds this past year, so I would like to pick up one "huge" card this coming year. Would love to get a T210 Jackson although that card is probably still beyond my means. The Cracker Jack Cobb is still very high on my list also. (2) Continue to make progress on small sets (W519-2, W521, W590). Last edited by glchen; 12-29-2017 at 08:59 PM. |

2017 Was A Career Year
Way back in January, I landed the four horsemen of the apocalypse — well aware of that moment when you realize this is the best find I will ever have in my life. 2018 will be a wild success if I can add just one signed T206 pose that I don’t already own (I’m at 44 unique poses and will die happy and fulfilled if I can get to 50).

2017/2018
2017 was a great year. There wee a few small items that I was looking for:
1-Lou Gehrig autograph: Greg Nazareth sold me a nice late career example at a very modest price. 2-1940,41 play all Ted williams: these two were actually part of my friends fathers collection. They gave them to me for helping them process and sell his collection. 3-Mickey mantle signed exhibit- was able to finally score one on eBay at a reasonable price. Where I fell short: upgrading my honus WAGNER autograph 2018-upgrade the wags, begin the three year savings plan to own a Christy Mathewson autograph by 2020 |

2018- and maybe...
For some reason, today, I went out to BBR and viewed the 1915 Red Sox pitching staff.
Such a cool collection of hurlers! I think I may pursue all but the Babe. Not even sure if Ralph Comstock and Guy Cooper have cards... it will be fun to investigate. I recently sold my Dutch Leonard and Vean Gregg cards...too soon...evidently.
