Default "Junk Wax" Prices Going Up?

I'm just curious if others have the same observations I do... It sure appears that wax, especially Topps wax, from the late 1980's (1986-1987 specifically) is starting to go up after being pretty stable at low prices for a long time. For instance, a couple years ago it wasn't hard to get a 1986 Topps wax case for less than $200, and a wax box for less than $10. Now those cases are in the $500-600 range and the wax boxes more around $25 each. 1987 seems to also be going up. 1988 and 1989 seem mired in purgatory because of obvious overprinting, but even they have been on the rise. Cases that were less than $100 each are starting to climb as well. Any thoughts on the reason? Is it because they are now all around 30 years old? With the vast quantity produced they will never be anywhere close to the scarcity of the pre-1980 years, but at some point as they continue to be opened the quantity does diminish. You can observe this with Donruss and Fleer as well. Those companies, especially again the 1986-1987 wax/cello/racks are going up too. Just an observation. Wondering if anyone has brilliant insight.

I think that Junk wax dose have a chance to move up. Mostly because it is so inexpensive to break open. So in a few days it will be 2018 30 year old cards 1988. In 1988 If I could open up some 1958 wax I would have jumped at the chance. And these boxes are way less expensive than current wax. For the price of a 2017 chrome box you can buy a 1988 wax case... .So as they continue to get opened and mostly discarded at some point supply demand tilts...

I know a couple of 86 ryne sandberg cards sold for over 2k in psa 10. Maybe people were breaking cases hoping to hit one. And 87 is a cool design with a couple of rookie cards that can be pulled. But I don't see a lot of upside potential in 80s stuff other than cards that are hard to find in psa 10. Or maybe the steroid guys once public opinion changes and they get in the hof.
