Default January Pick Ups

I couldn't resist the opportunity to have the first pick up thread of the new year Last year I picked up a fairly extensive collection of amateur slides of the 1971 Bucs season to include the World Series. Over the last couple of months I have been slowly picking up a number of professionally shot slides of the 1971 Series. Today I received the last of them. The first slide is actually the Bucs celebrating the 1971 Pennant after defeating the Giants in Game 4 of the NLCS. The shots of Clemente crossing the plate were taken following his Game 7 Homer in Baltimore. I think its always cool to see previously unpublished images of famous events in baseball history. For obvious reasons these make me very happy.

Great pics Mike. I love Al Oliver's jacket with his nickname Scoop on the back!

Awesome photos. The Sanguillen swinging photo is my favorite. I also love the "Scoops" Oliver jacket.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. The Scoop jacket is so 1971 Pirates. If you look closely at the first photo you can see Dock's No-No jacket in the middle of the group. These guys were such a smooth and diverse team they were the very epitome of cool for the 9 year-old version of me. They were baseball's version hip hop before there was such a thing.

Marc (bocca001) was nice enough to give me this in a somewhat lopsided trade. The SF Giants played an annual exhibition game against the Santa Clara Broncos from 1963-1974. I am now missing only the 1963 and 1973 scorecards. Thanks, Marc!

Mike,

These are very neat slides even though we were on the losing side of the Series. I like them all, but my favorite slide is the Davey shot; very cool!

Default Pickups

I was glad to help fill a gap in Rob's collection and happy to get this nice Giants vs. Santa Clara University baseball ticket for my modest SCU baseball display.

Also picked up this NY Giants pennant from Erik C. I figured that I could pretend that it was an SF Giants pennant given that it doesn't actually say New York on it.

Mike
Outstanding acquisition, from a collector's standpoint and from a fan's. I especially like the slide of Clemente following through on a swing. It's not only beautiful in its own right, but it shows Stargell kneeling in the background. It reminds me of how reassuring it felt to see Clemente in the box and Stargell on deck. Congratulations!

Default 1941 Bob Feller "Clovergram" Newsletter

Neat Bob Feller item that was just too interesting and odd to pass up!

Pictured is a 1941 "Clovergram" newsletter published by Clover Farm Stores, advertising their upcoming annual convention slated for Oct 1941. Special guests included Bob Feller, who was to be interviewed by Ed Bang, presumably in front of all the attendees.

Measures about 8-1/2" x 13" and is in overall VG-EX condition.

This was part of a 50 Clovergram newsletter lot, all from 1941. If anyone is interested in the other 49 NON-Baseball newsletters, let me know!

Thanks guys on the Old Gold Ruth piece. So this piece came from a guy in Portland Oregon who found it in the crawl space under his house. The piece was missing the right panel which I knew would be an easy project for Tom (Art of Restoration)

I've always loved those embossed postcards. The copper plate used to make the batter \ catcher one is very cool.

From The Mattingly Charities event earlier this month. Game worn June 17th and 18th, 2017, versus the Braves. Marlins lost both games.

Default Glass Slide Projector and Slide

A little before the time of being able to throw in a DVD or stream a game live from MLB. While these glass slide projectors and slides are not all that rare, finding slides with major league baseball content is sort of tough.

It's what is known as a window card. These would be placed around town to promote either the current or upcoming offering at the local movie theater.

The most common size is 14x22 though there are less common mini window cards at 8x14 and jumbo window cards at 22x28 (same size as a half sheet). The window cards were generally on a cardboard stock and often had writing on the top, which was a blank space used by the theater to promote dates and times of the showing.

Last evening I had the chance to meet Bucky Dent at an area Banquet and had him sign some things from my collection...

A Visiting Player hand painted locker nameplate from County Stadium in Milwaukee (from his White Sox days):

The program from his infamous HR game in Boston (he suggested the inscription):

and a 1978 World Series ball:

Those are awesome pieces. Bucky has been so nice anytime I've ever met him and I remember that game as if it was yesterday.

Happy to have picked up this 1904 Boston Americans program/scorecard from the game played in Boston on July 16, 1904. Cy Young pitched for Boston and got the win. Addie Joss for Cleveland. Interesting 3rd Base/Nuf Ced McGreevey ad on the front. Has a nice Boston team composite and Carl Horner ad.

Default Couple new Iowa items arrived today.

Excited to have these arrive today.

'61 season pass - only missed one game, #60. What a great summer that would have been.
