Default March Pickups

Spring is coming, so hang in there!!

Was really happy to tick another short print/single print (I usually say the former, but others prefer the latter definition of 'SP') from this tough set off of my list...

Darren...loving those 71's...I really need to pick up a Killebrew. I really enjoy when you post them...

Had a big weekend locally, still organizing what I picked up. Here are a couple of favorites...tough to get a 64 Mays centered, these two are working towards the goal...haha...

Picked up a couple of graded HOF rookies...they didn't last long until I popped them... 5s due to centering, but corners that can cut glass, my kinda cards that look good in the binder...

Picked up some great common lots of 64-66 and a huge lot of 61s. Found all three variations of this gem...even though the "partial white out" was written on probably 50 years ago! Fun find digging through the lots -

Just picked this up, this 76T Brett is hard to find centered. I hear there are some out there but I haven't seen any yet.

Very nice Al. I actually prefer this over his rookie card. Love that 76 set.

I have an SGC 7 of that card which is well centered but I don’t think quite as centered as yours.

Here's mine. Great card, but not as well centered as yours. This is a beautiful issue in any event.

Is PSA only judging the back of the 67 Mays for that MC??? I thought they gave concessions on the back of the card, the front is certainly not MC. Awesome card...

Yep. They will totally do that to you now because of the back of the card. Welcome to the new PSA...

That's been PSA's SOP for a long time, actually. My 1969 Topps Mickey Mantle WL variation is PSA 6MC, because of a minute bit of it being cut off on the back.

Thank you! Willie’s face really jumps on his 67 card. And yes, PSA applies the MC if they deem the back far enough OC. I’ve owned several cards like that, and I love them.

Yep I like those too. I never worry about the backs anyway and the MC keeps the price down so you get a great deal on a great looking card.

A miscut designation for that card makes no logical sense. The front is dead centered, but the back is way off. This means it was impossible to perfectly cut the card - meaning there was no way for the front and back to both have perfect centering.

So, how is the card miscut? Shouldn’t the proper designation be a misprint or something to that effect? The issue is with how the card was printed on the stock - not how it was cut.

When you put it like that, you're absolutely right. With how it was printed, that card couldn't have printed 'correctly'

They were hit and miss in older flips though. I have a '66 Topps Koufax that is slightly miscut on the back. I popped it back in my slab-busting days, but before that it was a straight PSA 6.

Yeah, doesn't matter. PSA and logical sense don't frequently go together.

I would agree with you it's technically a mis-"print" if the front and the back don't align from the factory. But if there is one side of the card noticeably miscut (nevermind how nice the other side looks...) they will typically call it miscut. Also note that PSA can hit you up with just the "MC" qualifier - which is the standard missing border or part of another card showing - and then there is the more mysterious, less understood N8 (rejected) miscut. These are generally reserved for diamond cuts, or unexplainable skew borders that they don't like. These do not have to be super obvious anymore for PSA to reject them. For example I have a '56 Ernie Banks that is in an SGC 6 slab. It has a weirdly wide upper left horizontal border. It's like it skews upwards, and the card is slightly too big - beyond 2 5/8 on that vertical side. While it doesn't affect the eye appeal of an otherwise very pretty card much - it is noticeable. I'm pretty sure current-day PSA would have N8 rejected that one.

Man, those black SGC beauties really pop!!!

I wonder if a sea change is coming, as more and more people are posting cards graded by them instead of the 'We'll get your cards back to you sometime in 2026...if you're lucky' PSA nightmare.

It's been a long time since I added cards from this awesome set. The Clendenon was always highly sought-after due to his status as an SP, and Elston Howard was the reigning MVP. Pretty cool.

But stains??? I think not. The whitish area on the back of Donn's card is possibly tiny, dried, pink (easily flicked away?) gum flakes?? Who knows, but no 'normal' collector would ever demand these guys be burned at the stake for practicing staincraft...

I've had an awesome few days of cards. First up is a trade acuqisiton from a board member. 1969 Bench:

Next is a pair of 1955 Bowmans. Hank is from the most recent Robert Edward Auction. Willie was purchased from Howard (hcv123) a few hours ago at the Philly Card Show.

I have picked up a ton lately, but this is for one of the only two sets I decided long ago to chase for the registry. It seems rare when a 10 comes to auction for vintage post war and you just see them in the eBay museum for outlandish prices.

I bought this for a very reasonable price and near half of the only other I have seen listed on BIN lately. Nothing crazy special, but when I can upgrade a Jimmy I get very happy.

Not a blood relative no.

When I was a wee whippersnapper, I was fascinated that he had the exact same full name as my dad (Jim) and picked him up at shows just because I thought it was cool.

Never stopped, lol.

When I was a wee whippersnapper, I was fascinated that he had the exact same full name as my dad (Jim) and picked him up at shows just because I thought it was cool.

Never stopped, lol.
I love little 'quirks' like that!!!

Super excited...as I close in on my low/mid grade 1953 Topps set, I finally found the right #82...the Mick. First time I have owned this iconic card and the poor pic here doesn't do it justice. Truly a piece of art as the others in the set.

Not sure why the A...don't care...I was looking for a low grade version that wasn't all creased up. Measures good, and I do see a weird reflection in the coloring in the hat? Maybe recolored a bit? Anyway...Right card, right price...and as said...I'm stoked. Can't wait for another 60 something days I can re-post in the 53 thread!

Here's a card I've been chasing for quite some time. Thanks for the look!

By virtue of my purchase of a complete set 2 weeks ago, I now own 2 of these, one of my favorite Clementes of all-time. There is just something about that pose: The empty Three Rivers Stadium, and Roberto poignantly considering his lumber. The colors also work very well here with that Pirates uni, the gold cap, and the perpetual design oddity that is 1971 Topps. Guessing this one would check in around a 6, maybe a 6.5 as it is nicely centered side to side. My other ‘71 #630 is a PSA 6 that is not quite as well centered s-s, and while still fine - does not have quite the color pop that this one has.

It keeps killing me to see these 3's and 4's that look like at least 5's or 6's. Don't get me wrong, I like buying them though.

That looks a hell of a lot better than a 3.5. Congrats!
