Default Horizontal, Or Vertical?

When it comes to card, program/score card, etc. binders and scrap books, do you prefer to lay them flat, which looks good for display, or do you stand them vertical, which makes them a lot easier to get to?

I re-designed my modest little cabinet so that my card binders are much easier to get to, but maybe doesn't look so great?

I do vertical for accessibility. But now you've got me thinking about displays !

I noticed the “Baseball Life of Mickey Mantle” on your shelf. I read that book in 4th grade.

The problem with displaying binders vertically is that if they're not packed tight enough, it allows them to open slightly and the pages to want to bend over. The way you have it now looks like that won't be an issue, so I agree to leave it as-is. FWIW, I personally store them horizontally.

I store my binders with the spine up, so the pages hang down. I'm the only one who handles and looks at them so appearance isn't an issue to me.

I personally don't like binders because it's hard to find what I am looking for and I like to be able to handle the specific program or magazine I want to review.

I use magazine file holders like these to keep my shelves uniform and place the contents in the file card holders on the fronts for ease of location. Each item is placed in a cardboard backed clear bag like comic book storage. These are made in a million designs -

I have posted this before, I had a 1965 Topps set stored vertically in a 3-ring binder for about 25 years. The weight of the pages stressed the top left corners of the ultra pro pages and bent some of the top left cards.

They didn't crease but the corners got curved. I flattened the cards out and I don't think they show any permanent damage. But now I store all my binders flat.
