Babe's signature has always struck me as a thing of beauty. I love it when someone signs with a real definitive and attractive style.

Finding a gem mint example of his signature on a white ball, highest graded— with ironclad provenance... it was more daydream than actual collecting goal. Can't believe it happened. Still hasn't sunk in.

This piece caused some tectonic shifts in my collection, yet as I am sure we have all encountered in our collecting journeys, we have to sometimes gives up great pieces to get one even greater piece.

Phil, I was following the T206 set. I think the final price with BP was quite strong ($72k), especially considering only about 30% of it was graded and none of the key cards graded above a 2 (and most graded less than 2). T

Matt,

That Ruth ball is amazing. Not sure I’ve seen a ball from that era look so white. Looks like at least one other person signed it. Who else signed the ball?

Nice card. I have seen most of the Leader Novelty cards, but I don't remember seeing the Hornsby before.

Amazing ball Matt. That's the best looking Ruth signature I remember seeing on a ball, or anything else for that matter. Congrats!

My E98 Color Run of Chief Meyers is complete today;
with the arrival of the Orange background!
Thank you, Phil!

I don't think a battery mate run is in my future tho;
unless I snatch a Red Matty before Phil, lol!

Picked this up from LOTG. I decided I could live with it being a little trimmed because I could never afford one that looked this nice otherwise.

Thanks Adam (and Jesse!), the other writing was actually what made it a "must get" for me, as it pertains to the provenance. The writing is from the original owner, specifying the exact date and place of the signing. It was on Babe Ruth Day in Houston, back on July 10, 1947, at the Texas League game between Houston and Fort Worth (which went 11 innings). I was able to track down lots of news media from that day covering Ruth's time there; he was on a tour supporting boys' baseball for the American Legion, sponsored by Ford Motor dealers. Was also able to find a program from a banquet/luncheon the Ford Dealers threw for Ruth on that same day in Houston (replete with the menu, LOL). It really contributed to the history and provenance of the ball, which in conjunction with it being a gem mt auto sealed the deal for me.

It took three months between finding the 2nd to last card and a good enough copy of the final card I needed to complete my T3 set, but the deed is finally done! This pickup from Mile High was card #104 and the end of journey that started on April 18 of last year. Big thanks to jayshum for the heads up on the auction lot.

Here is the link to the Flickr album of my now complete set of T3's.
T3 set (104/104)

Of the three sets I've completed in my life, I think that this one brought me the most joy.

Congratulations Chad, pre-war set building nowadays is not an easy task. Super happy for you.

Thanks Dean,
He'll never get his due other than our small tribe here on net54 but he's one of my favorite players and I'm happy to add this to my collection. Now if I can just find a series of 80 Hellmann my life would be complete.
