I realize the Robert Edwards Auction is still in overtime and that's probably why the board is dead...BUT...how'd everyone do? Congrats to the consigners who hopefully were happy with the end results. I'm still holding my breath on a few lots.

Any real surprises...good or bad?

I'm still thinking about one more bid on a lot or two. I'm sure the thing will end while I'm trying to decide, and about 5 seconds later I'll be just certain I should have made both of them. In fact, I just about fell over when I saw this thread on the index list, thinking it had ended while I was checking email and catching up on some work.

I am totally thrilled with the price my card is at and the auction isn't over yet. I still have one good bid yet and hoping it will stand up.

Since I would like to leave the house at some point, I called REA at 8:18 EST to establish some call backs and the gentleman on the phone said that they were still getting a lot of bids...so I think it is far from over. They were still getting many bids per minute. I have high bids on two items and I also have one item consigned. I wish it would end right this minute and I would be very happy.

Is there any way at all to tell which lots in the auction are still being fought over? I haven't seen any of the early-page premium items move in awhile, and nothing I had bid on has moved since the extended period started.

In the future I hope that REA goes to the same format as MASTRO with lots closing individually. I have the high bid on a few lots that haven't changed since 4:30EST.....they would have been mine!!!!!!!!!

Right - I've been checking Bid History any and all that I think may have moved. I just always wish there was a feature where you could see which, of all lots, are the ones that got bids within the last 15 minutes to keep it open another 15 minutes. It might be stuff in the Americana section that is getting the ongoing bids. I was trying to avoid hunting around through individual auctions. Mainly, I think it would be kind of fun to watch some late-inning fights over items, instead of watching my few just sit there.

By the way...What's the story about Lelands' auction going on indefinitely - after initial bidding is over, there has to be 10 minutes of no bids on ALL LOTS before closing each lot individually???

If you were outbid you might be able to find the card listed on ebay next week and buy it for a fraction of what it closed for at Lelands.

I did my usual routine...Fall asleep on the couch, drool a little on myself, wake up...check the board (and tonight the auction) and at 1:15am central time just put another bid or two in....Personally I like the way Mastro ends them a little better.....we'll see...but sleep is quickly approaching....at some point ya just gotta go to bed (or at least I do)...best regards and good luck to all...those look like some pretty stout prices, overall...

lol - Anyone else get an invoice that included $1,000 for shipping? Just looking at the account summary page I thought maybe they'd given me someone else's (much more expensive) lot.

But nope, it was mine all right - just showed $1K shipping. Wasn't there just a thread about this kind of thing? hahhaha.

Or have gas prices really gone up that much?

!!!

OK, that was fun for pretty early in the morning. (Hey, when you are up until 3:30 EDT, 8 a.m. comes pretty quickly!)

I was lucky enough to win the Ramly ad piece, along with a few Ramly lots. lost out on the cabinet lot #108 with 2 Carl Horner cabinets about 2:00 am thought my max would hold. on the off chance the winner of the lot wants to sell the Kirb White cabinet i will pay $4,500 for it.

I would be interested in buying individual cards from several lots:

Lot #114 need Sears and Barry. ALSO have many N43's if you are working on the set.

Lot #127 i would be very interested in the SGC 84 O'Hare

I also have some cards that winners of several lots may be interested in:

Lot #118 have Griffin and Dad Clark to sell or trade.

Lot #1133 Mayo football have several more to add to this near set.

Scott

ps...if anyone wants to sell the blank backed Ramly from that lot I would be interested....as I still need one urgently ..

Wow Hal. Just wow. Good for you for picking that up! There's nothing even to say about it - just wow. Going to try to display it somehow? Isn't that the one that is in the first part of the Burns PBS series?

I'm really thrilled for everyone. Like Xmas morning or something. lol. Except Santa was much cheaper. hee.

I picked up a few Cobbs that were low enough that they didn't even get hit by anyone's second-choice-consolation kinds of bids. Very happy with it all.

I can't compain at all about the closing price on my card Trevor was pretty much right on last month when he said the over/under on my card would be $2500. I lost out on the one lot I was bidding on and still waiting to hear from partner on another lot if he won the other lot I was interested in.

Yes, Joann, here is the outline of that episode from Burns' work onbaseball:

Inning One, "Our Game", looks at the origins of baseball in the 1840s and takes the story up to 1900. Burns refutes the myth that Abner Doubleday invented baseball in Cooperstown and traces its roots instead to the earliest days of the nation — there are records of a game called "Base" played at Valley Forge. (This is where they show the book and mention it)

cool hal...i've seen that book before...very cool. so maybe it's time to start scrutinizing revolutionary war writings to uncover the true origin of the game. maybe george washington's autograph...when we learn that "he" invented baseball....will inch closer in value to babe ruth's or ty cobbs!

T210 collectors --I would really be interested in your reaction to the prices on the T210 lots. Casey Stengel at $18,000.00 seemed about right but curious as to the lot prices. If the winner of the lot with Series 6 Angermier and Bohannon wants to sell those please let me know. Congratulations to all the winners !!!!!!

I had bids going all night long on various items, and wound up with the Herpolsheimers, the Abder Doubleday CDV, and the lot containing the Newsboy Ward, T3 Lajoie, and B18 Walter Johnson.

I'm pretty pleased.

Rounders is a children's game in England. That was certinaly played well before Mr. Doubleday. Baseball, a combination of cricket and rounders, can be argued when it truly started. It certainly was played before Cooperstown, but that gets into the official introduction vs. unofficial playing.

So Cooperstown is likely the birthplace of organized baseball. The true origin is up for debate, but probably goes back to the 1600's.

Glad to hear that you got the Ramly display very nice item. I might be interested in a Ramly or two, but I stayed on the sell side last night - had 20 or so high grade T206's, mostly Boston players - thought the Speaker might go for more, but the commons went for sick prices that I just do not understand. I'll buy the Boston players back in 4's or 5's already have the Speaker in a 5.

I hope some the 8's and 9's were yours, they brought extremely high, almost ridiculous prices i thought.

email me on the Ramly's

lower grade, still tough, but probably worth $500-700 each, nicer ones have been slow to sell of late.

I lost out on the E223 Buffington in the afterhours. Was high at $5k or so until midnight, and my ceiling of $6k was topped at about 12:35 in the morning. Very sad about that.

Walked away with the E107 Roy Thomas, but that is it.

Also thought I had an outside shot at the Allegheny Kid Gleason, but that literally tripled in the extended hours, and I decided to focus more on the Buffington.

Argh
