June Autograph Pick-Ups
Let's see some pick-ups for June, I know it's not pre-war but it's my 3rd Mauer Bowman's Best Gold rookie auto, and I have around 500 Mauer autographs in total:

Thanks its one of the early "Large format" Jackie Checks. I don;t see too many of those around anymore. Also its signed 1 1/2 years after his ML debut and the year before he won the MVP award

Took a gamble on this one from a 0 feedback Ebay seller, who called me after I won to tell me that the item was from her father, who used to go to Caesar's to gamble and who got it from Louis when he was working as a greeter. It went so cheap owing to the 0 and the poor image that I said WTF and picked it up. The brochure is not as yellow as it scanned and is a baccarat flyer.

Here is a signed reverse of a Caesars Las Vegas keno card. 100% absolutely signed in person. You be the judge

Just back from JSA. This is the first item I have ever personally submitted to them (although others have submitted probably 500-1000 autographs to them after I sold them with just my personal guarantee) and they did a great job so I have to say I was impressed with the service as I had a few personal requests and they did everything I asked. A MUCH tougher 20th century Hall of Famer than most people realize on any flat item. I really liked the added "Detroit BB Club" in his hand as well.

I don't think I can count this as a pick up, but...
I mailed a 1958 Topps card to Reno Bertoia asking for an autograph on 6/11/2001. Last week it came back unsigned with a small blank card. Postmark is May 29, 2012. Almost exactly 11 years for a response without signature . So far, that's my record.

Just picked up this Kelly E121, not the best condition, but a tough card to be signed by this questionable HOF'er.

That is a sweet Kelly. I like my unsigned cards to be as sharp as possible, but for some reason I almost prefer my signed vintage to be well-loved. Creases give it character.

A couple of sweeties...
I recently picked up two sweet prewar vintage no-hit pitcher sigs:

I know. I know. It's not sports, but I couldn't help myself.
I am so psyched. It's not a rare sig or book, but I have been searching for several months for just the right one. I finally found a full signature that wasn't personalized. Pretty Cool!

Didn't really expect this. The contrast isn't the best, but its WAY cool. Don't have in hand yet, but can't wait to get it. LEFTY to his ex teammate Joe Glenn, apparently.

Joe Glenn is a great trivia question answer... "Which player got to catch for Babe Ruth and Ted Williams?"

Lelands lot
I won the Lelands lot from last night that had all of the letters from ballplayers. Thought it was an interesting lot...but there was also a picture of an item in the lot that intrigues me. It was a typed letter which seems to have a non-secreterial signature of KM Landis. The content regarding the player the letter was addressed to going off to fight WW2 is very interesting as well. I hope it is legit, but even if not I like the rest of the lot content.

Just got this in trade here on the forum. I've been wanting one for awhile and while I would've preferred a signed photo, the sharpie really makes the sig POP.

Nice one Jarrod. Most of those cards I've seen have been signed in pen, and although they are ok, the sharpie really does make the sig look nice on it.
Any plans to have Frank Robinson sign as well? |

|
||||
|

I've been wondering about that. Although I'm not planning on selling it, value is always a consideration. Would it be worth more single signed or signed by both? Robinson is obviously not a rare auto whereas Maris is much more scarce.

One consideration is that Frank Robinson's autograph quality has gone down significantly over the last few years. His autograph may actually diminish the eye appeal of your signed Roger Maris card. Just my 2 cents, FWIW. |

|
|||
I would add Frank Robinson to the card. There will always be a greater market for a multi card signed by both, especially with set collectors. Just to give one example, one of my favorite signed cards is my 1968 topps card multi card signed by Mays, Mantle and Killebrew. There was a guy selling one on ebay with just Mantle and Mays at a price that I think was at least $200-$300 less than he would be asking and might be getting if he had added Killebrew, who obviously would have cost less than that. At the same time, i think that as a single Roger Maris card, it is worth less than a similar Maris signed single player card. If someone wants Maris just to have Maris, an individual card is probably more pleasing to the eye. i would vote for getting it signed by Robinson

Just picked this up. Guys who hit 4 home runs in a game. I already had a ball signed by most of them, but this one included two deceased players, Pat Seerey and Joe Adcock. Just needs Carlos Delgado and Josh Hamilton. It's not an MLB ball and there is a panel that has some white out on it i discovered, but I still think it's cool.
