I don’t think they’re Keezer. I think they may be attributed to someone who was in the pennant business for one month in 1962.

I picked up another "sliding runner." The blue is better, the font is different and there are some differences in the graphic, besides just the number on the runner's back. There were something like 16 watchers on this pennant, so I was happy to get it cheap.

Default Early Los Angeles Angels PCL Oversized Pennant?

I just picked up this oversized 35" across thick felt pennant. I believe it to be an early Los Angeles Angels PCL pennant. What are your thoughts?
Thanks, Andy Sandler (914) 388-2940 andy@allsportsauctions.com

No real clue, Andy. The one thing that gives me pause is the color. Then again, “Angels” is not the most common team name.

Nah, he’s just holding it for a friend, lol.

I’m more concerned with the bottle he’s about to throw.

Those two look like they're filming a scene for a movie. Everyone else is smiling for the camera.

The pennants look like they're made out of paper.

That Baltimore pennant looks like the person sewing the letters on may have been a bit tipsy... at least with the A. Seems like early 1900s is right, although I'm guessing it is impossible to know if it is related to baseball in any way. I guess the right price depends on how much you love Baltimore the city.

The St. Louis pic is awesome and funny. I enjoyed reading the book "Even the Browns" about that baseball season and the World Series.

Here is a recent pickup for me. I already had a few copies of this pennant and they are all beat up. The graphics on the scroll seem especially fragile and prone to crumbling for some reason. The graphics are relatively solid on this one and you can even still see a bit of paint in the oranges and the Bronco. But it came bedazzled with feathers for some reason. I have no idea why. They were sewn on with some kind of cray stitching system that was maddening to remove. I think I cut about 50 stitches. But I'm pleased with the result.

Great pennant, Marc! Santa Clara no longer plays football, right?

Regarding the picture….I also see a couple of valuable 6” Cardinals pinbacks in there. The kid inhaling the secondhand smoke looks like his pennant may be sewn to his shirt….something we saw in another picture. Maybe, maybe not.

Also regarding the picture, this is the 1944 world series. I see two copies of the world series program (back cover) in this picture. And Rob, I think the boy breathing the second hand smoke has his pennant pinned to his shirt with a smaller 2-1/2" cardinal pinback.

Good eye! That picture “has it all.” Back when kids could go to a World Series game on their own if they, or their parents, had a couple of bucks.

And, if you went on your own, you could smoke.

An assortment of recent pickups. With 20+ years of collecting Santa Clara, I was happy to find this new (to me) Orange Bowl pennant. I'd seen a Kentucky version so figured this existed, but had never seen it. Happy to get it even with the damage.

Luv Ya Blue is rather rare. People here in Houston are up in arms about Tennessee wearing the Oliers throwback uniforms this year. They are scheduled to wear them in a game against the Texans. Just seems wrong that those uniforms don't belong to a Houston team. I like how the Ravens handled things with the (new) Browns.

I liked the red tassels on the NY Giants. New York Giants seem tougher and tougher to find these days. Lots of Dodgers and Yankees, but not so many Giants.

Well into the 1960s, most kids were "free-range" from an amazingly early age, no helicoptering back then. You could go to a playground packed with hundreds of kids without a single parent in sight. And virtually all adults smoked, but not many kids as young as this one looks. But I'm not sure there were any restrictions on buying cigarettes other than maybe a store's policy.

Hell, yes. I used to leave the house on my bike or mini bike and return eight hours later. We roamed near and far.

Luv the Luv Ya Blue! Bum and Earl Campbell. Just checked Earl’s stats. Damn, he only played 7 years. Poor guy can barely walk these days.

Last I saw of Campbell, he was doing much better. I think he had some issues with pain meds and that had him in a wheelchair looking pretty bad.

These are great pickups, Marc. Really love the Orange Bowl pennant! It found its natural home!

The Oilers thing is strange. Agree about the Ravens and how the Browns are the Browns. Idk why the Texans aren’t the Oilers tbh. When the North Stars (Stars) moved to Dallas, it was a huge blow to MN. It still bothers me that we can’t have the North Stars name back (no offense, but wth is ‘Wild’)

Good stuff

I haven't found as many new pennants lately but this is a welcome new arrival.
I hope that I'll find another blue tassel at some point in the future.

Does anyone know if pennant toploaders come in smaller sizes than 12 x 30? I have these Bazooka pennants that measure 5 x 14.

I've never seen a smaller size. I just cut down the larger ones to the smaller size. Kind of stinks because they aren't exactly cheap. I've also tried using rectangular toploaders, but those don't work as well for display as the pennant tip will eventually start to obey gravity.

I have cut them down as well, to fit these Bazooka sized pennants. No other option that I'm aware of, either in the form of rigid toploaders or soft sleeves.

Not ideal, but at least it's easy to do!

Here's a clip from Pawn Stars I just came across, that I thought was pretty cool. A good deal in my opinion... fair to both sides. The seller knew what he had, got a good price, and left a little room for Rick to make a profit as well.

One of the few Pawn Stars negotiations that actually made sense... no shorting the seller, and no myopic seller asking 10 times what his item is worth. Forward to the 2:01:30 mark, if you don't care to see all the other negotiations.

Hope you enjoy- here's the link...

Poster/photo toploaders cut to fit. A guillotine paper cutter cuts through like butter, and you can make these quickly and easily with a perfect edge. Use the existing rigid edge on the bottom and close with clear wrapping tape (better than “invisible” or “magic” tape) along the top edge.

11”x14” toploaders work great for most minis, two per, and less than $1 apiece if you buy a pack of 20. I needed 13”x19” for my set of Bazookas. Still it ends up costing little more than $1 each.

Regular sized holders trimmed down at the open end can work but these Bazookas aren’t quite proportional to the full-size, you’ll pay a bit more and they won’t quite have even spacing.

Nice Marc … I don’t know of another pennant in that general style …

Beautiful. One of my bigger regrets was trading that one away, as it never surfaces. Awesome example!

Thanks, guys. Here is the copy I've had for getting close to 10 years. I'll likely trade or sell at some point soon. It has a blunted tip and the top tassels have some dirt/staining at the tip. It's a bit more orange than the other (which I like). I know that ooo-ribay has two versions of this, with slightly different Giants font. And there is a version with the batter and parts of the stadium painted. I've only see it on Worthpoint.

Here is the painted one, that me, Ooo-ribay, and I'm sure several others would love to find. I think this Dodgers one may be the same maker. Probably Trench, because of what Oooribay calls the "cartoon" font for "Giants" that shows up on a few other Giants pennants.

Yes... I used to have a pennant string with mini pennants of all 8 NL Teams. The colored Giants version and that red Dodgers version (above) were both part of the string. So it's definitely the same maker. Another item I probably should've kept.

Marc, if you ever do decide to sell or trade that one with blunt tip/soiled tassels please reach out via email or PM!

Soooo…the Seals Stadium pennant with some extra paint was a mini? I kinda hope so. It would make it easier to live without it.

Never knew they made a polychrome variant of the Seals Stadium pennant! Funny, they never made a monochrome variant of its Coliseum mate.

The maker was indeed Trench. That same batter re-surfaced on a number of later pennants for the Dodgers and Giants. That said, the general look of these always struck me as a bit different from other Trench-made pennants from the late 1950s and 60s. Maybe a different artist's work?

Domer - unless I’m misunderstanding post #8091, that polychromatic Giants might be a mini(?).

I've had that multichrome Giants pic saved for some time. Never thought it was less than full size, but maybe? It does have a black spine, which is different that all of the other Giants copies I've seen. Mark- any change you remember if the string was black? And how small (about) were the minis?

I may be a dope and/or misunderstanding, but post #8091 makes it sound like the Dodgers and Giants, above, were mini’s. That said, you don’t usually see that much detail on a mini.

Marc - can you find that pennant again on Worthpoint and see if the description references the size?

This wouldn’t merely be a different artist, but also the construction is very different. (The spine width, tassels, etc.) … night and day different from the known Trench L.A. Coliseum pennant from this period. Like Arnold and Danny DeVito in Twins …

I really think they used a different artist. The normal Trench stadium pennant artwork by the artist we're most familiar with illustrated each ballpark full of fans. These renderings of the Coliseum and Seals Stadium are empty.

But, the batter depicted on these two anomalies was re-used on other Trench pennants, so I have no doubt these are by Trench.

Here's a ca. 1960 photo of a vendor selling pennants outside the Coliseum. You can see the red-variant prominently displayed, along with the more traditional blue one (depicting a full Coliseum), along with other known Trench-made pennants, like that Pirates one. Presumably, this vendor bought all his pennants from the same company ... so, that would be Trench.

OK.... let me clarify. The 2 "Stadium Pennant" examples Marc showed (Giants and Dodgers) are both FULL sized pennants. But it was asked whether these two were possibly from the same maker. Here is my (hopefully) clearer reply...

I formerly had a pennant string of 8 minis (you've all seen these pennant strings that include minis of each team in the league.... right?) Anyway, the pennants on the string included mini versions of the Giants and Dodgers Pennants Marc had pictured. This led to 2 obvious conclusions...

1. They (both the minis and full size) are from the same maker
2. The Giants and Dodgers pennants were produced during the same time frame.

Hope this clarifies it.... The pennants Marc showed are all FULL SIZED.
