Why do these threads always become a love-in?

It’s a addiction/disease people get hooked on the rush, thrill, and mostly about the Joy of owning a cool card!

It’s emotional!

Would people still collect if there was no social aspect to it?

I haven't seen an official announcement from Memory Lane yet, but looks like final bids totaled $21.58M (including the juice). Wow!

Finally got 3 of the 4 T3’s I needed! Paid up in Ex 5 (two old PSA graded ones and an SGC). Hope they are as nice as they seemed (pictures not that great online), older T3 grading can be varied. Passed on the one card (!) I had left the Criger, it was a 5 with next bid $2200, but this one appeared to have some paper loss on the front. Would rather have a clean 4 for $500-700, but these have become harder to find lately. I think there are clearly some registry guys pushing the higher grades on these. Great cards, prices are still reasonable frankly, especially in nice conditions.

Last 10 cards (which I don’t think are particularly more difficult than other commons) have gotten much harder to find and took me a few years.

Paul, good luck finding a T3 Criger you are happy with to complete your set. From what I saw, the T3s in this auction seemed to go for a wide range of prices for similar grades, but there was 1 that I thought went a lot lower than I would have expected - the SGC 5 Tenney NY and Boston variation sold for only $1171. When I was looking for this card, I saw much worse condition ones offered and sold for around this price or higher as it is one of the tougher variations in the set so whoever got it at this price did pretty well.

To some folks I'm sure the social "attaboy!" helps alleviate any nagging misgivings or guilt they have in making a large purchase on something that isn't exactly a necessity in life.

Unfortunately my experience often is the rush is very short-lived. Yes, I have things I treasure. And a lot of things I could probably have done without.

Default Some incredible cards and prices

I had my eye on a lot of lots. Stuff all over the place sold really strong - not just the big ticket items. Doing shows regularly now I see key vintage prices leveling and starting to tick up again. Not many, but there were a few reasonable deals to be had. When all was said and done I landed a single lot for what I thought was a great price - 1938 Goudey Greenberg PSA 6. Congrats to all the board members who won some great cards!

I am actively buying and selling vintage sports cards graded and raw. Feedback as a buyer: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=297262

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.

that was me! I was excited that I got that one at that price, it does seem to be harder to find. the others I have seen and passed on for various reasons, but that one was elusive.

that was a nice pickup (I was underbidder and not sure why I didn't bid again...). Greenberg is still relatively cheap, though has picked up lately notably in the 34 Goudey and the Diamond Star.

the Hockey Sport Kings did really well. don't see them often in high grade.

actually, I forgot to mention the M101-2 prices, wow. have those EVER sold for those kind of prices? it really seems to help that PSA is grading them, I guess, that seems new?

social aspect is very important. many times buyers rely on other board members to explain to them what they just bought.
