Well, 90% of the time I have to write in all the information on the insurance receipts because the postal employee can't be bothered to write it in him/herself so IMO that doesn't mean anything that the amounts and addresses are in different handwriting.

Edited to add: I am not going to edit out my post, but just want folks to know I was responding to Dave F who has since deleted everything in his post.

Note to self... Whenever selling, frequently check AND respond to emails to keep the badgers at bay.

Incidentally, Who's postal clerk is filling out the adresses on these slips?!

Here in Yakima, Washington you have to pre-fill out all of you insurance forms or they will not accept them. It has always been that way or at least for the last 10 years since I have been selling cards.

Give Matt a break-- sounds like some of you are ready to convict him without trial-- glad to see the worst may now have been edited out.

Clearly the insurance receipts are dated March 6-- is anyone seriously proposing Matt wrote in the names afterward in order to deceive? If that's what you think, you are seriously paranoid. Yes, Matt was slow in getting a few things out, but clearly there is something weird going on at his PO-- some people mentioned very slow deliveries from postmark to arrival, which Matt has no control over. The point is that the items were mailed-- hopefully will arrive shortly.

I've dealt with Matt repeatedly, and sometimes there has been a pause between correspondence, but nothing the least bit dishonest. I'd a lot sooner vouch for him than the person that initiated this thread, who is a serious detriment to this board and hobby.

"Yes I do give discounts, sometimes alot."

In Jim’s defense he really does give discounts, this was in the clipper section of the paper.

Dave S-

I'd still like the card I will issue you a new check tomorrow and if the first one arrives just rip up the other one.

Just to let everyone know I'm not out trying to rip anyone off, I have been around since the FullCount Board days and I am hardly hard up for money. I'm just here to read and talk about Baseball cards.

Thanks

Matt

Matt-

Thats fine I'll hold the card. As far as what was deleted, I haven't seen P.O. stamped receipts that didn't have the circular stamps...but obviously I would agree I don't think your really out scamming people after years, and for these amounts. I definately would raise some questions at the P.O. though...they should be able to track those packages down.

Email sent on addy again in case you needed it.

I agree with Tim.

Matt's been around here forever and many of us have dealt with him repeatedly. I wouldn't hesitate to transact with Matt in the future and I'm positive he's not trying to pull one over on anybody.

Things happen from time to time. When it's someone who's a board regular I try to be very patient...especially if I send a personal check for an item.

Edited to thank Wonka for the laugh!

Rob

But he sure doesn't seem like a scammer to me. Typically scammers outright refuse to address issues, never have things like insurance receipts and generally are darn hard to lcoate.

I give Matt credit for addressing his critics head on, even if most of them also seem to have legit gripes.

My two cents....
Scott

You would think in a city the size of Yakima, WA they would be a bit more modern and the postal clerk could run the receipt thru the printer. I would find a new PO branch.

Also my local postal clerk always gives me the register receipt with matching numbers for the blue or black insured mail receipt.

Hi Matt,
I am curious about these receipts.

1. Yakima is large enough that it should have the POS terminals. The clerk runs the Insurance receipt through the printer. You shouldn't have to write anything on the receipt.

2. The date stamp that is on these receipts is not valid on insurance receipts. They need to be round dated in red ink. I am concerned that you will have trouble if you need to file a claim.

3. The black receipt shows a postage amount of 80 cents. This is the rate for a flat, which cannot be insured. The insurance starts on small parcels, more than 3/4 thick, and the postage for these starts at $1.13. You should not have been able to purchase insurance for an 80 cent item.

4. Matt is correct. You always get a receipt that goes along with the insurance receipt. This payment receipt always lists the insurance numbers on the receipt.

I think that you might want to talk to your Postmaster about this so you don't lose out on an insurance claim.

Good luck,

Rick

I ship all the time and NEVER has the post office (through its employees or computers) written in the address. If anything, the only thing that comes out printed on the insurance receipt are the amounts- and not all post offices have that "modern" technology.

If you have a computer, I would think you would have a printer. Why not use the online USPS and print the postage on-line. You get delivery confirmation for no cost. You can buy insurance. An additional feature is the buyer gets an email notifying him or her that package has been shipped.
And you don't have to stand in line, just drop the package at the counter or have the Postal carrier pick up the packages.

I use this all the time.

Cobby, if I do take a package to the post office , they do write the address on the form where I live, it is a small town. When I lived in Vegas from 1996 thru 2001, at the post office, everything was computerized and nothing was handwrittened. Looks like is different throughout the US.

I would advise the people slated to receive items that are represented by those insurance receipts to either call or go to your local post office ASAP and ask them to trace the insurance number. This can be done at the Post Office just like you or I could track a Delivery or Signature Confirmation number on the USPS website. At the very least you could find out if these items were mailed at all.

Every package I ever ship- and there are a lot of them- I fill out the form in full, with address and amount of insurance. Never did it any other way.

And glad Matt came on the board like a gentleman and cleared this up.

I won a Kotton Bender from Matt on 2/28 and received my card today.
I hope this is just a problem at the Post Office and is cleared up soon.

Hey Joe-
That's pretty cool that your P.O. does that. Here, the either make me do it (I usually do anyway), or they just accept it blank (which happened yesterday when my wife sent something for me). All the amounts and the stamp were on there, but no address.

I bought a card from Matt last month, and it arrived safely today. It is a 1924 Zeenut of Moses "Chief" Yellowhorse. Matt evidently waited a few days for the check to clear and then sent it first class, but it took the post office nine days to deliver it. As Jefferson Burdick once said, all's well that ends well.
