I love this thread, I love the odd and different myself.
You guys really have some great unique items, so as I come across stuff I will try to remember to put up a picture. I just found this in a box I was going through and love these items. I am not a huge college fan but love items of Hall of Famers from their high school, college or minor league careers. I think they are rarer and especially from the older players, not as much was saved. Sorry I had to cut the pictures down so they would load. And I find it interesting that it looks like his dad was his high school coach, never knew. |

Wish I had more to contribute to this fun thread. I'm counting these as oddballish.

LOVE those Coke signs. Do you guys know if they made an Orioles example?!?

This is similar to the Coke signs, 3D plastic, 9 X 11 inches.
The grey area is actually white, but my scanner turns it grey because it's about 1/8th of an inch lower than the printed sections (so off the glass). |

Those Coke signs are so cool and would make for a nice wall display. Hope they did make an O’s version. I know the Giants example looks great.

Orioles
Might as well post something odd. It’s a plastic, almost real to life, almost to scale, an authentic reproduction Orioles bullpen cart.

Bump this thread back to the top.
Found this today in an old garage I am cleaning out. The lid has a 1959 date and the bottom has a 1958 date on it. Not really sure what it is yet. Has the words "Baseball Packing" on it in a few places. I need to clean it up, the layer of dust it THICK on the top. |

Lady's fleece vest designed by Marguerite Rubel. Ms. Rubel designed clothing from the 1940's through the 1980's. Her outerwear was carried by Macy's, Nordstrom's, Joseph Magnin and I. Magnin.
I guess the hanger is kind of oddball too. From the Mayfair Inn in Sanford, Florida...the Giants' Spring Training home before they moved to Arizona.

Seat cushion from the LA Dodger games at the Coliseum 1958-61 before Chavez was built. I know they rented cushions there, but I'm not sure if this is one of them.

Here’s a seat cushion made of the type of material you mentioned Rob from the old Topeka Owls Ballpark (kind of hard to read because it’s wrapped in plastic) and a colorized photo of a fellow who may have played in that park.

Makes sense Rob. I remember going to some games at the Coliseum with my grandfather and he rented cushions for us, and I believe we even rented them at Chavez, but I was pretty young and can't remember anything about them.

I believe it's likely that this seat cushion was a stadium giveaway. I recall having a similar Angels seat cushion from about the same time period. If not it was sold at the stadium as a souvenir. Last edited by Scott Garner; 06-11-2020 at 06:03 AM. |

I’m not sure they even did stadium giveaways in the early ‘60s. The game was enough, I think.

Those Dock Ellis hair curlers are awesome! I somehow forgot about Dock's LSD no-hitter anniversary. Thanks for the reminder. Here are a few fun items to share related to Dock Ellis's no-hitter on 6/12/69 @ SD Padres: A ticket stub from Dock's no-hit game. Only one of three that I am aware in the hobby. At one time I owned the adjoining seat ticket and I found them separated by 15-20 years of collecting. Crazy! Ellis signed the back of the ticket for me at the MAB Pitcher Perfect show in NJ in 2006. I had a nice chat with Dock. A great memory... RIP Dock Ellis A 1971 snapshot of Dock in the dugout. A recap of the game that I picked up somewhere along the way. Finally, a poster of the Dock Ellis LSD no-hitter that I just purchased tonight! I'm still waiting to find a nice Type I photo of the Dock Ellis no-hitter. By the way, TRIVIA TIME: What is the only MLB team to NEVER throw a no-hitter? Hint: There is only one and they are still an organization... Last edited by Scott Garner; 06-12-2020 at 11:50 PM. |

By the way, TRIVIA TIME:
What is the only MLB team to NEVER throw a no-hitter? Hint: There is only one and they are still an organization... Great stuff Scott... Pitching a no-no on LSD might even eclipse back-to-back no-hitters (in terms of improbability). Would love to see a Photo of the event, should you ever come across one. I think I know the answer to your Trivia question, since I lived there for so long... The S.D. Padres, right? |

If you have not ever seen it, Dirk Lammers has a great blog on no-hitters called nonohitters.com. He continually keeps score on how many games have been played in the Padres no no-hitter streak. It's a great blog, BTW. He also has written a good book on the no-hitter topic. |

Babe Ruth
I don't know if schools still participate.
The Babe Ruth Foundation Sportsmanship Award was started by Ruth for underprivileged children who exhibited true sportsmanship during the school year. I believe it was started around 1947 or so? I picked up an unused plaque and award separately on eBay. I also have an award given to a student - not sure where it is. The plaque was made by Balfour (about 10x16") - I saw a pic where the plaque was placed with other school awards. There are some pics on the net with students but no info. On the back: Individual award - never issued/engraved: I had a writeup on this but couldn't find it - perhaps someone else has more info?

No-Hitter commemorative medallion ?
I have no idea as to the origins or maker of this oddball item other than the fact it obviously commemorates the no-hitter White Sox pitcher Joe Horlen's hurled in 1967 against the Tigers. Any information about it is truly appreciated.

Interesting. I've seen vending machine-like devices in amusement parks and tourist destinations where you can stamp letters and numbers of your choosing onto medallions like that.

I hope you are well! These were individually made to say whatever info you wanted by a machine by inserting around a dollar. I vividly remember seeing these at Disneyland in the 1960's- 1980's and actually made a couple of them myself. People would put them on their key chain. Obviously the guy that made this one was a fan of your boy Joe Horlen. Great pickup for you. Congrats! I hope this helps |

Ya gotta like odd
This one - while a toy watch store display attracted my eye since the TV in the background is a baseball game.
I've always liked store displays - especially if full. Not sure what year/decade or if authentic. If real, I would guess a warehouse find due to condition?
