Do you guys think this is Lajoie? I'd love to hear some opinions. I can't decide.

Not sure of course, but my opinion is that it isn't the same person. Look at the bottom of the earlobe in relation to the nose. On the tintype, the earlobe is above the bottom of the nose. On the other image, it appears to be lower. That said, a little bit different angle can make a big difference, but it appears to be a different person to me.

Again, I easily could be wrong.

Tom

Default Lajoie Tintype

I exchanged emails with the seller several months ago, and assured him that this is NOT Lajoie - perhaps his grandfather. This tintype was probably created about 10-20 years before Lajoie was even born. In fact, it's not even a baseball player - the backwards '4' probably represents the number of a local firestation.

I actually purchased this card from the seller at one point, then he pulled out because someone told him it was Lajoie. In the meantime I had figured out that "duh" baseball uniforms did not have numbers in the 1870s and that this was actually probably a fireman, so i was quite relieved that the seller had come up with this fantasy.

I don't think you can tell for sure that it isn't Lajoie from the face, but I'd lean in that direction, even without the numbered uniform.

Seller description:

"...One major sports collector (who wishes to remain anonymous) has offered us a substantial amount as he believes this is definately Napolean Lajoie..."

Yeah Right!!!

Scott´s comments are correct...
