Default Topps Card Mock-Ups

Design mock-ups are very interesting. They show us the designs that Topps might use in the future. Following are a few examples. I own the first two. The others are long departed. Please post images of mock-ups you may have.
Thanks,
Craig

What's that Tom Seaver card? And why does it show someone other than Seaver running toward first? And how could anyone at a legit company misspell his name?

Craig-were some of those from Gavin Riley's collection? I think he had quite a few back in the day.

Great stuff--thank you for sharing! Never seen anything like it before!

That Bob Tolan card looks an awful lot like the future Renata Galasso Seattle Pilots set.

It appears that they used the Bobby Tolan design for 1980 Topps Football.

Default Topps Card Mock-Ups

Hi Dave, around 1983, Gavin and I were both offered 6-8 advanced Topps mock-ups.Gavin had no interest and passed on all, though he later wrote a short article about them. I purchased the Hubbs and the Calvin Murphy ones, and, regrettably passed on the others also. I would still love to see mock-ups other members may have, Craig

Ah, I always thought they were Gavin's. I have posted a copy of that article here in one of the threads if you haven't seen it.

Did he get out of the hobby at some point? I'm not even sure if he is still with us but it seems like he was very active and then quickly wasn't. I'm reading a lot of his old TTS columns these days and I remember him in BHN in the 80's.

Those all look really cool and probably only because of how unique they are. Had they been made, it might have been a different story.

Do you mind if I ask from whence they came? Curious about that as they are not ordinary items and I try to keep track for my research.

Yes, that is the article and out of all the mock ups, I always liked the design on the Clemente the best.

I could see that Wynn card being done in a variety of all of the 75 Topps colors and that would have been a great looking (and tough condition sensitive) set.

Curt, I was excited to see your mock-ups on Net 54 post. I would love to get some, or even just one. Would you be willing to sell or trade one or more of them to me?

Thanks,
Craig Williamson

Looks like they were alternatives for:

Hubbs 1963
Garrett, Morgan 1973
Wynn 1975
Clemente 1972

Default Boxtop Mock-ups

This post has dealt with mock-ups of baseball cards, but there are mock-ups of other elements of a baseball card issue. Following are two examples from the late 60's to early 70's of mock-ups of wax box tops. Like always, would like to see examples of mock-ups from any part of the card production process, be it box tops, cards, or inserts etc. from other members.

Thank you,
Craig
