There was an article in the Washington Post today about Bill Werber. He turns 100 yrs old.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/16/AR2008061602183_pf.html

Show us some cards of him.

There really haven't been many ballplayers who have made it to 100; and if I am not mistaken, other than Chet Hoff nobody has even made it to 102. Congratulations to Mr. Werber.

There's surprisingly few cards of Werber, partly because he doesn't show up in the Play Ball sets. Besides this Double Play, is there another nationally-distributed set that shows him with the Reds? The Goudeys and National Chicles all show him in the American League ...

Players to reach 100:

Charlie Emig
Ralph D. Miller
John Daley
Paul Otis
Bob Wright
Charlie Gibson
Red Hoff
Milt Gaston
Ed Gill
Ralph Erickson
Rollie Stiles
Karl Swanson

and soon, Bill Werber

I still need Emig's autograph. Doubt one will ever turn up. All the others were great signers and easy acquisitions.

Yes, sorry, I knew I was missing a couple. I don't usually include Negro Leagures on my list, though.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Werber!

Very nice man and always good to fans. I've written back and forth with him on several occasions and he's always been nothing short of extremely kind.

I like that photo. I think I've mentioned it before, but that's not Werber's signature.

Yeah, I know...I picked up a big lot of 1939-40 Reds photos and they all have the same handwriting on them.

Here's Werber in 1936 with the Red Sox

Never understood the "Billie" spelling on the front of the DS card.
