Just as I was posting in another thread about how much I was hoping that big-time collectors would SHARE their collections with everyone else via the internet...

I see where Dmitri Young is SELLING people the ability to see his collection.

http://www.globalauthentication.net/dyoungcd/dycollection.asp

I doubt he needs the money... so I wonder why he doesn't just put up a website and let everyone see his collection for free?

He obviously doesn't care that people know who the owner is.

I'm sure that some will buy this CD. I don't see how anyone would buy this CD to look at someone else's cards when you can just come to Net54 and look at all the wonderful cards that exist within the net walls. Someone with too much money to spare I guess.

Someone would have to be an absolute idiot to buy something like that...they don't even go into detail on what is on the CD.

I don't know who Dmitri Young is, I guess I should, but I am not paying money to see anyone's collection. I guess we could all put our respective collections on cd and charge for them....but not sure that is in good hobby "spirit".....I think our little websites with our cards, and mine is woefully out of date, is fine. I enjoy sharing not "charging" to share.......

This is simply amazing to me for some reason.

I talked to Dmitri several years ago about baseball cards and he was telling me how he had just paid "Big Bucks" for a Pete Rose rookie and he was working on a "Mint" Willie Mays. I can understand if the CD had music on it as many player's like Jack McDowell and Bronson Arroyo try to live out their musical fantasies but to gauk at another's person's collection via a CD is amazing to me.

The guy makes like $30K a day, is this necessary?

Don't give Hal any ideas!

DJ

I suspect many of the images on the ebay cds of this type have been taking from the American Memories site at the Library of Congress, all of which are available for free, even in high res tiff format.

Leon:

Dmitri Young plays for the Tigers.

You wouldn't know him since he started playing AFTER 1921.

Dmitri is a great guy and has an awesome collection of high-end cards. I know he is close to Baker and Rocchi. Sounds like something that GAI is making money on, not Dmitri.

Baby steps. These are just baby steps.

Soon I can recoup the cost of my Wagner if everyone in North America logs on.

On Hal's first post there is a web page, on that web page there is a link to contact Mr. young directly. I will e-mail him and see what he has to say and maybe the rest of the board can do the same and throw a little " shame on you", his way.

Hi, being a rare card collector I think it is a shame to offer a cd of your cards to sell for viewing . I make far less than you and I am happy to share my collection with others. I am not alone in this regard.
Sincerely, James McAlister

Given where the link goes, it seems to me complaints if any should be directed to GAI. I very much doubt Dmitri Young views this as a money making venture.

Would someone care to explain this to me? Is it a movie reference I should have picked up on?

Maybe people like me and Greg who live on the coasts are just too sensitive to phrases like "dat boy" used in reference to an African-American.

I guess PETER!!!!!.........that Iam not up to your level of slang intellegence !

My hillbilly West Virginian Uncle Steve always said "dat boy".....does this mean that my mothers brother is African AM.?......that is his way of talk....

Flint is a town of mostly black and I do not insult anyones RACE !!!

I also have used "dat" in other posts refering TO baseball cards,so...if you are going to throw me to the wolves personally , you email me FIRST !!!!

and it is Greg and I.

Not throwing anyone to the wolves or saying you intended it that way, but surely you can see how it could be misinterpreted. EDITED TO ADD And "Greg and me" is right, object of "like" not subject of sentence. You wouldn't say "Smart like I" would you?

Hey Peter and Greg give it a rest. Taken aback come on guys, I didn’t read anything into it that seemed like Dan was being anti-black towards anyone at all.

Lighten up, or go to a rally, enjoy some soymilk and discuss this horrible thing that occurred here with Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon I’m sure their looking for a new cause of some sort.

My nizzels are getting too sensidizzel, on the network 54 afizzel you dizzel?

It's real easy to get offended behind a keyboard so let's be careful. I know I speak (or is it "talk") to Dan K regularly and can safely say he writes like he speaks. I am positive there were no bad connotations meant. It ain't that big a deal.....and I still think buying a cd of 145 cards to look at is stupid.... it's probably just a PR move by GAI....good or bad.....regards

To repeat my point because you people obviously missed it, I have no basis to think Dan INTENDED the comment as anything remotely racist. My point is that the word "boy" has a long history of being used in a derogatory (to put it mildly) fashion towards African-American males and I for one would not use it, particularly in a public forum and in combination with the word "dat," to refer to an African-American male because it might be MISCONSTRUED. I am sure that was Greg's point as well, although he can speak for himself. And now I will go "lighten up" and go back to my conference call with Susan Sarandon and Jane Fonda.

Personally, I am offended more by the comment that since Peter is "from the coast" he is more racially sensitive to terms. Man oh man, talk about a mouthful. Does that make everyone from the South automatically less sensitive, aka a bigot? When I was in Vegas last year, I spoke to several Blacks/African-Americans, from cabdrivers to people who worked in casinos to fellow ticketholders at concerts and to a man (or woman) once they found out I was from Arkansas they raved about Clinton (native born Arkie) and said he was "their man" and "the first Black president."
Being from the coast doesn't give anyone a leg-up on racial sensitivity.
My 2 cents.
TBob

I am highly offended by your "dink" comment - I am reading this as I eat my spaghetti and meatballs and listen to my Sinatra CD collection, and I no longer have an appetite. I'm so upset that I may not be able to watch the Godfather later...maybe I'll feel better if I go whack someone.

Some people are just a bit sensitive and tend to read things in the worst possible context...better to save outrage for when it really counts - otherwise it becomes like the boy who cried wolf.

The racist comments posted especially by Peter are unaceppetable and especially hurtful to some. Remember Afro-americans were basically shut out of big leaugue ball until 1947 and this is a vintage card board. Lets be a little sensitive since what we collect bascally does not include any afro-americans. Let's hope that most of the people that monitor this board take a moment to realize the horrible discrimation these players endured.

I misconstrued Peter's comments and I apologize for my former post which mentioned him. I did not mean to attack him I just feel strongly about racism and placed blame on someone who is totally blameless.
