We accept all faiths or even those that have no faith! No fighting over here! Hell, we even use when appropriate. We won't flame you for your grammer, your income level or your knowledge (or lack thereof). All we ask is that you bring something of interest to the table and that you leave your weapons at the door.

Paul - I'd edit my "grammer" but the irony in my faux pas is probably worth leaving.

Larry - There is a sister site to this one which is for vintage memorabilia which is what the link is for.

I think "faux pas" makes up for "grammer."

ramram, careful or we might take you up on your offer!
Actually, I do scan that forum and have posted once or twice. Nice place, I especially liked the long pin thread recently.
BTW, the post-war forum is a pretty subdued place as well, so maybe there's something in the pre-war water!

You guys better watch it, this thread is clearly O/T.

On a more serious note, it really is pretty quiet on the memorabilia board.

The memorabilia side is no longer the safe haven it once was. Instead of discussing 1860's baseball photography, we've now regressed to First Amendment rights. There's no place to hide.

Jeff,

That was prescient.

Well there is still the post-war board or there was until Peter wanted to change the rules of the card swap.

The memorabilia side is not ruined by one post...the sad part is that Peter asked a perfectly legitimate question, but he couldn't help but put something in there about the 1st Amendment which distracts from his question.

There are plenty of good threads over there right now that are begging for posts, why not add to it Barry...I don't even know who your favorite team is. What's on your wantlist? Get anything new lately?

The time is quickly approaching when I will step in. Fear not...there will be another sunrise....

Peter C- please refrain from posting such weird stuff. Please limit your posts and threads to baseball cards for the time being....or real memorabilia if on that side of the house.....I appreciate it.

thanks

Hi Dan- I confess I don't have a want list. I guess a new find of some kind would be nice. No, didn't get anything new for myself but did get a great consignment today- an 1863 Jordan & Co. cricket card of Crossley that will be only the fifth Jordan card ever offered for sale (and I've handled three of them).

My favorite team- wow, that's a tough one. I need to give that some thought. Probably one of the San Francisco Giants teams with Mays and McCovey.

Barry, I would have guessed you for a Brooklyn Dodgers fan....Why the SF Giants?

edited to add: And I know that some will criticize you for talking about something you will have in an upcoming auction, but trust me the memorabilia side wants to know about that Cricket ticket.

My dad was a Giants fan so I followed suit. I was 5 years old when the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn, so I was too young.

I'll talk more about the cricket CdV at a later time.

Joe- is the question about a favorite team one I saw in my lifetime, or just any team?

(although, I heard a rumor that you watched the Boston Beaneaters play. I think Jeff, Judd, or Michael told me so.)

Probably British collectors...there may be a few in the states, but the Cricket ticket that Barry is talking about is much older than the 1930s.

Cricket cards in general aren't too valuable. But the one from 1863 is part of a set of four players that are considered to be the first collectible cards in America. It was also an admission ticket to a game, so it has a more complicated history. More on it at a later date.

Barry, since that's a ticket would it be worth more torn in half to show you were actually at the game?

Clint- you actually may be correct.

If I tear it in half, I can get it put into two different SGC "Auth" holders and sell it twice!
