Default Are the 52T Ed Mathews RC’s the most overpriced of all mainstream cards on ebay?

VCP shows most recent sales for 1952 Topps Eddie Mathews RC in low-grade, A-1.5 in the $2,000-$2,500 range with some lower. The cheapest example that you can buy on ebay right now is $4,000 and they go up quite rapidly from there. Basically, double the going rate. What other prominent cards can only be had for exorbitant prices on the bay at this time?

Actually Eddie is one of the most underpriced cards out there. For the majority of their careers he had more homeruns than Mickey Mantle. Eddie was just unlucky and played most of his career beside arguably the GOAT Hank Aaron.

Usually it is whichever card doesn't have a copy on the auction block at that moment - the BIN's are usually 50% plus of the price the cards actually transact act. Type cards are typically the worst offenders, seems most get listed at like 5x the price it might actually transact for.

I guess, the less competition the better. It's painfully obvious who NEEDS to sell their cards and who doesn't. I won't be picking up a Mathews anytime soon at this rate, which is best for me anyway.

Eddie is my favorite player and I was finally willing to take the plunge and buy his 52 Topps RC a few months ago. I bought a PSA 3(MK) and I'm glad I got it when I did. There's a 2 selling for about twice what I paid. Not sure why the sudden surge in prices.

Post a pic of your Eddie. I traded mine for a Red Cobb right before the Red Cobb cards exploded in price. So it turned out to be a great move money wise. On the other hand it is one of the very few cards I truly miss and wish I still had.

The Mathews price is affected by several things:

Popularity:

1. He's a Hall of Famer
2. Member of the 500 Homerun Club
3. It's his rookie card

Condition:

4. Last card in the set; more susceptible to damage, i.e., rubber band damage
5. Very difficult to find centered

Scarcity:

6. 1952 Topps High-Number
7. (See #5)

Here’s the front and back of the card I purchased in October. The marker on the back doesn’t bother me. I picture a kid in the 50’s crossing out Boston because the Braves had moved to Milwaukee. The centering, while not perfect, isn’t bad for the issue.
