Hmmmmm......

Well, according to Dressed To The Nines, that is the Cubs 1908 WS uniform. Although, I suppose it could be a 1908-1910 home uniform assuming the cap/stocking variations aren't necessarily 100% accurate.

It doesn't jump out at me as 100% certain for any of the Cubs pitchers of that era.

You got me.

Are we 100% sure it's a pitcher?

It must be Four-Fingered Brown, not a pitcher.

Default Gee, this board is hilarious.

I wouldn't mind some actual speculation about Brian's question.

From this picture on baseball reference it resembles who it says it is on the card. I assume it's not him since it's being questioned.

I went to Baseball Reference and looked at the Cubs roster from 1908-1911. I couldn't find a match.

Default Willis & The Cubs

"During the off-season St. Louis sold Willis to the minor league Baltimore Orioles of the Eastern League. Although some doubt existed whether Willis would report to the minors, he told the Baltimore Sun: "I feel very much satisfied to play in Baltimore." Despite this apparent sale, both the Cubs and Reds put in a waiver claim for Willis. These waiver claims were ruled to be valid; St. Louis President Stanley Robison had mistakenly believed his waivers were good until the opening of the next season and consequently had to return Baltimore's check. Willis ended up being awarded to Chicago for the $1,500 waiver price, but elected to retire rather than report to the Cubs."

Ok, one question - How accurate is Dressed To The Nines?, or maybe the question is - Did the players always 100% of the time actually wear the uniforms as indicated in Dressed To The Nines?

If it's accurate, then he's wearing a 1908 Cubs World Series uniform. That should narrow it down to about 15 players.

Sorta looks like Moran, both are righthanded - but the glove is not a catcher's mitt.

Default Willis

Interesting story about Willis - good job digging there!

But it doesn't look much like Vic to me- Moran is a good match visually-

I don't think it's Moran. Although Moran played multiple positions early in his career, after coming over to the Cubs in 1906 all he did was catch. (at least according to Baseball Reference). The player in the photo is not wearing a catchers mitt.

Here is an image I found of the '08 Cubs...

How about Vic Saier? He started in 1911 for the Cubs. Maybe he put on a 1910 uniform by mistake.
