45 bucks

I remember when the Giants would have barrels full of cheap bats at Spring Training…

I also picked up a 1975 Cincinnati Reds Louisville WS Black Bat. I've had the 1976 bat for years and finally added 1975.

thanks; its beautiful. it feels good to hold. And $45 cracks me up. Today ROMLB cost about $20 after tax. More for a ASG or special edition.

Default Type I photo of Cincinnati Reds RHP Jim Maloney's 1st career no-hitter

Here is a recent Reds pickup that I really like.
This is a great action photo of Reds fireballer Jim Maloney taken during his 1st career no-hitter on August 19, 1965 @ Wrigley Field against the hometown Cubs.
Ironically, Jim Maloney, up until 1991 was credited with pitching 3 career no-hitters including a 2nd one that he pitched on June 14, 1965.

The ML rules that defined what was considered to be a no-hitter changed in 1991.
Because Maloney's no-hitter eventually ended in the 10th inning, it was eliminated from the list of official no-hitters.

Very nice! I assume Bench is on the right. The other dude looks nothing like Rose. Still cool.

edit: not sure I’d want to be business partners with Pete.

Maybe that's why Johnny and Pete didn't get along, and refused to speak with one another for so many years!

Scott, that's a great shot of Jim Maloney pitching his no-hitter against the Cubs. That must be Leo Cardenas behind him — he hit a home run to put the Reds ahead in top top the 10th and turned a double play in the bottom of the 10th to end the game. In case anybody is interested, there's a video that was shot in color of the last three innings that you can find on YouTube ...

Apologies if I have posted these before, here are 2 of Maloney's 3 no-hitters, I don't care if MLB doesn't count one of them.

Just because, I have also included the April 18, 1964 game where Maloney threw 6 hitless, then Tsitouris continued the trend until Frank Howard got a hit with two out in the 9th. It was the 66th career loss for Koufax, who also thru an immaculate 3rd inning (the third of his career).

Here are a couple of recent pickups. A 1967 Carling Brewery Buffalo Bisons team phone with Johnny Bench. I also picked up a 1977 Mrs. Carters George Foster. Only one has ever actually been graded.

Chris, I love that Joe Abreu cap! I recently picked up a cap he wore with the Newark Bears, likely from the same year as yours.

Andy, I have no idea what the story is with your early Reds bat, but I used to own it.

Here's a Reds cap from the 1960s made by McAuliffe that I recently picked up. It appears be some kind of prototype ...

By the way, who else is having a good time this summer watching the Redlegs' youth movement blossom? I've been having a blast watching the highlights!

Chris...

I'm also having a great time watching the young upstart Reds. It has been so long, I forgot what it's like to follow a contending and exciting team.

Wow!
Stealing 2nd, 3rd and then home consecutively is wild.
I just read that even Rickey Henderson never accomplished that feat in his great career. De La Cruz is an amazing rookie talent!

He's only been up for a few weeks, but he's already done some things I've never seen on a baseball field. He turns routine doubles into triples and scores from third on routine grounders. I even watched him beat out a ground ball to the first baseman.

Shortly after I started following baseball and collecting cards at the age of nine in the summer of 1970, I watched Johnny Bench and Pete Rose play for the first time and instantly became a Reds fan. I'll never forget walking into an air-conditioned market at Higgins Lake, Michigan, on a hot and humid day, and seeing a box of Topps Supers for the first time. A few years back, I added one of the display boxes to my collection ...

Very nice 1970 Topps Super Display box. I've been looking for one those to go along with my 1971 box.

I don't have many Reds items, but I love the ones I do have.

Those are awesome! I only just discovered this set 2 days ago in my 2002 SCD. I went to newspapers.com and downloaded images off all the subjects, but I've never seen one in-person. Looks like you have quite a few!

The Post also did similar profiles in 1935 and 1939 (these are longer articles). There may be other years, but those are the ones that I have copied in my files.

Can you guys tell me if this is a group of Reds players or other MLB individuals. I see Frank, but unsure of others.

That looks like Art Fowler holding up his arm, and Joe Nuxhall supporting it. Is that Wally Post below Frank Robinson, and Brooks Lawrence standing next to Nuxhall, with Roy McMillan kneeling below him?

Default Davis , Davis , and uhhhh Davis

From the 1937-1939 Orcajo postcard set of all the Reds ( plus a Dimaggio , go figure. )-- they were making sales based upon the popularity of the 1939 Reds vs. Yankees W S.
