Default 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Authentic

This card looks pretty beat up, but still sold over $2400!

The SGC authentic looks much nicer, but only sold for $1775

A different of almost $700 simply because the card is in different holder. Go figure.

I guess the white borders were worth an extra $700. Neither look to good to me. MJ, the SGC card has the borders cut off.

yes, i notice, but both cards are graded authentic. From general appearance, the SGC looks much more attractive than PSA. So the question is, are these white border worth $700? Personally i would rather own the SGC than the PSA with multiple creases and stains

The card is not just trimmed its missing the borders completely.

Id rather have the full size beater, over the chopped one.

The PSA should be a 1 not authentic and isn't that bad, the SGC should be graded G for garbage.

i just went and check on PSA website. It's odd because PSA don't give out "authentic" grades? May i wrong?

This is PSA definition of "1"

PR 1: Poor.

A PSA Poor 1 will exhibit many of the same qualities of a PSA Fair 1.5 but the defects may have advanced to such a serious stage that the eye-appeal of the card has nearly vanished in its entirety. A Poor card may be missing one or two small pieces, exhibit major creasing that nearly breaks through all the layers of cardboard or it may contain extreme discoloration or dirtiness throughout that may make it difficult to identify the issue or content of the card on either the front or back. A card of this nature may also show noticeable warping or another type of destructive defect.

If it's got to be trimmed- why not this one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/UNCLE-TOM-S-1952...23638733570906

Assuming it's genuine I wouldn't spend that much on it, but for massively trimmed/skinned it's got some appeal.

The PSA Mantle may have also been trimmed, although obviously to not nearly
the same extent as the SGC version.

And I think the difference in price is all about the borders -- yes, the PSA Mantle
is more beat up, but it looks more like a real '52 Topps Mantle. Your average collector
prefers to have more of a card (although some of the custom "die-cut" vintage cards
I've seen posted on here are pretty cool).

CW
Out of curiosity, would you rather spend less money and own a higher BVG graded sheet cut Mantle, or spend more money and own a lesser PSA graded original cut Mantle?

Well, sheet-cut Mantles are far & few between but to answer your
question, I'd much rather have the lesser graded original card. Not only
would it be an authentic card, but it would likely be cheaper, too.

He has or had a pic of the back. Looks like all that's left is the white front coating of the cardboard. Which makes me wonder if it's a cut down reprint.

lol...nice!

Also, If you notice the PSA one, the seller has 4 pics. The last one was taking with a black background to make it stand out a little more..ha

I would have just stuck with the black background. Maybe it would have gone for more? Not sure, but it does bring it oout more I think. Good selling tactics.lol But yea, I wasn't aware of PSA just "authenticating" cards and having no grade? Weird. Either way, it's a great card! Wish I had it
