Default Started my first set ever. 1960 Topps

Yes I am collecting my favorite set to hit the vintage baseball card market 1960 Topps baseball in PSA grades all graded. I love the color, look of the photos, player selection, and the sentimental value the cards have, all in all I can't wait to finish it. I was thinking of doing grades I can afford right now then always looking to upgrade as time goes on but all in all I will never sell this beauty of a set when finished, and so far I have some cards not a whole lot so pretty much all is fair game.

I'm working on that 60 set as well, have a few extras depending on what grades you are looking for. If you have any graded traders shoot me a pm and I can let you know what I have.

I love the 1960 Topps set, too. But I took a different route. I decided to put together a Yankees autographed team set.

Here's a small sampling...

for me its been about time and patience and playing the waiting game. I am not looking for too much of a deal but if I can get one cool if not then oh well but I can't wait to get some of the higher dollar cards from the set too one day, Vintage sets are way too cool

A great set and the set I bought the most packs of when I was a kid. Had a chance to by an ex/mt set for $350 (in about 1981) but thought it was too steep. Big mistake.

Fantastic set to collect. I built an ex-mt set about 3 years ago, with the stars and hi# all graded. Good choice, enjoy!

Nice !
I started a raw set about 4 months ago,
I have about 450 cards and most of the high dollar cards
with the exception of the All Start Mantle, the regular Mays and Aaron cards. My set is around NM+ the colors are gorgeous
I started collecting in '75 and have always been hooked on the colors.
I got back into it a few years, although I never really quit.
good luck with your set !

Default 1960 Topps set

This was one of the first vintage sets I did - really enjoyed putting it together with my dad. We put it together in Ex or better condition, before the onslaught of graded cards.

Also, just finished the 1961 set this summer. Watch out for those hi-numbers, they can be wallet draining.

Tom I see those High #'s on ebay and woosh there are quite high, i thought of doing 1-7 maybe 1-8 grades for my set, I probelly won't get the high numbers yet just stick to the more afforable commons, stars, and rookies for now, but if a deal comes by I will purchase the high numbers for sure, I didnt forget about them.

Bruce-I remember collecting this set out of packs also. Nothing beat the thrill for me of finding a Mantle in the middle of a pack. I just bought an SGC 84 Mantle, my only card from the set. It brings back a lot of memories.

Default Collecting the 1960 Topps set

I put the 1960 and 1961 Topps sets together as a kid. Luckily, my best friend's dad owned a dime store and at the end of the year, would just give me the leftover boxes filled with cards. Just for kicks, I went back three months ago and started to put another raw set together in EX condition. Having a blast doing it, I'm down to about 60 cards to go, needing the Mantle AS, but very few other high-priced cards. Every few years I start a set like this - reminds me of how fun our hobby is.

Default Unopened 1960 Topps pack

Funny you should mention that. About 20 years ago, when I was writing a monthly column for Baseball Hobby News, I wrote about the thrill of opening a 1960 Topps baseball pack. Lo and behold, a week later, a small box arrives in the mail from dealer Joe B., who said he enjoyed the column so much he was sending me an unopened 1960 Topps pack. I opened it - because that was the intention of his gift - and the first card out was card No. 1 - Early Wynn. I still have it, of course.

Great story Nick, how fun it would be to bust open a bunch of vintage packs! I love the look of the '60 all star cards.

I have one unopened cello 1960 pack (2nd series). I bought it about 15 years ago for $120 and have thus far resisted the temptation to open it. I bought it from Mark Murphy.

Bruce- I too bought my greatest number of packs in 1960. My mother would give me a quarter and during lunch break I would go to the candy store around the corner from school and buy five packs. What a thrill that was. And the payday would always be finding a Yankee! Didn't matter if it was Jim Coates, as long as it had the Yankee logo in the lower left corner ( I liked Jim Coates because his last name wasn't too far from Sloate).

Eventually, maybe one day, if we quit fighting wars, then cards released after that time shouldn't be considered prewar...
