Default Boston Show - Is it any good for pre-war?

Posted By: BlackSoxFan

I have never been to a show (asside from the national) outside of atlanta. I'm going to be in boston around the time of the show there, so i thought i'd find out if anyone here knows anything about it? Is it any good for pre-war and vintage??? How big is it? How long do you think I will need to spend there....etc...etc..... so forth and so on

Regards,
Black Sox Fan

By Boston show, do you mean the Shriners which is in November? I think it's pretty good. The only other big show I've been to is the "East Coast National" in White Plains 3 years ago. The Shriner's is about 10 times beter than that. Some of the people I know are there (off the top of my head) are; Verkman, Tik and Tak, Halls Nostalgia, Kevin Savage, Mr Mint (not sure that's a positive), PSA, SGC, Lelends. A bunch of others w/ pre-war but I don't remember their names.

I've been told by other OBCers that the Shriners is about 1/3 the size of Ft. Washington. I wont know if that's true until Sept when I visit my first Ft Wash show!

That's the one i'm talking about! Since i haven't been to white plans or anything ... how does the size compare to the national? I'm trying to figure out how long i should expect to stay (although i'm sure i could stay all day if i wanted)

Haven't been to the national. The people I've know who've been to both say it's quite a bit smaller. Not as crowded though. The crowds have gone down in the past 4-5 years.

I collect mainly pre-war, usually beatup stuff, never graded. There's plenty for me to look at altough I also notice plenty of pre-war psa and sgc cards. I usually get there at 8:30am on Saturday and stay till mid/late afternoon. There are people I know who also come back for Sunday, but I think you can easliy do it in a day.

I was there when I first moved out to this area - three years ago - but I wasn't looking carefully at anything. Seemed like there was plenty of people and tables, filled a nice big room. But nothing compared to the National. If I had to take a stab, I'd say it will be about 20% the size of the National.

I will go this year. Let's meet up if you are going to go. I just bought an almost complete set of W514s (missing 3 Felsch and 113 Stengel if you have dupes), which I know you are interested in too.

The show is put on by the Greater Boston Sports Card Collectors Club of GBSCC for short. Their web site http://www.gbscc.com/ does not have up to date information, but a number of dealers say they will be at the show on Nov 4-5. It is at the Shriner's Auditorium which is in Wilmington MA. About 1/2 hour north of Boston (assuming no traffic) just off of I93. http://www.alepposhriners.com/directions_to_aleppo_shriners_au.htm for directions.
