...to pitcher Fred Anderson, for helping set a team record at the time of 17 straight wins, of which Anderson was credited with 4, while some joker named Mathewson only got 1 of the 17. Of course that was Christy's final season and his arm was dead, but I'm sure he got one of these trophies as well, pretty cool..

So I could find only one other of these that went in Leland's back in 2007:

As, you can see mine is in need of a face lift to say the least, so I'm in need of opinions. Thanks to fellow Net54er Mike for letting me know these can be silver re-plated. Never knew that of trophies.

So after calling around and getting quotes I can do a total silver replating & restoration for about $350-$400 (not sure I want to spend that much), or I could get a general cleaning and the base refinished for $130, but it won't have that new shine and will look more pewter/gray.

Any thoughts?

Ok...to me this is an investment grade piece. The silver looks like it's completely gone other than the crest...agreed? I would have silver restoration guys pull off the crest, re-silver the cup, re-attach the crest. You can remove the wood base, paint it black, re-attach it.

What also is pretty cool is underneath the cup is stamped "Makers, Dieges & Clust."

There's normally a simple screw/bolt mechanism. Pretty easy to separate the two, once you have it in-hand...

There's either a rod that goes through the cup itself or one attached to the bottom of the cup. There should be a hole through the center of the base (covered by the felt) and the rod is connected to the base with a hex nut.

Should be very simple to remove from the base.

That's a super item. Normally I would say to leave it alone, but in this case I think it's a great idea to restore it. What a great piece!

All they did was clean it, nothing was added to it, all original.

I was going to get it silver replated, but the guy said don't bother, looks great just after a good cleaning.

Did they just strip/sand off the green paint? Or maybe it wasn't really green before, and perhaps an illusion?

Yep, the base was originally wood colored (I wanted it to look like the day the Giants re'cd them in June of 1916) and someone painted it green, like someone said, maybe Fred, maybe someone since. But yah he removed the green paint, or 98% of it, and the rest is magic.

I can not recommend this place enough. He really takes pride in his work and it obviously shows...Net54er Mike recommended him.
