i'm sure we have some who will blow this thread out of the water with some fantastic stuff. i never really collected mantle, being a Dodger fan and because his stuff was always more expensive than everyone else anyways. here are a few oddball items that I had scanned:

Default other stuff

By the way, there is a variation of the 68 Mantle Plak. I think Bob has the other, less desirable version.

Haha, okay, I admit it. I have a problem. . Mantle is an awesome player to collect, for those interest in both type cards and a player set though, given his playing years and that he was included in a good number of the regional and food issues.

Any of the Mantle experts here have an idea what this is? Card sized, glossy front, the photo is a halftone screen rather than real photo. Broder? Fantasy piece?

Hi Adam,

I collect a lot of his Holiday Inn memorabilia, including his postcards. My understanding is that this is a fantasy piece. I believe I confirmed this understanding with one of the experts in oddball Mantle items but did not save a record of the communication and cannot say for certain at this point. If you already have it, I would not toss it based on my representation. But, if you do not yet have it, I would not purchase it. I have almost all of his postcards but this is one that I would never add to my collection.

Even though it is a fantasy piece, it still isn't a bad looking image/item. So, if you don't have a lot into it, it isn't a huge loss.

Below are my Mantle Holiday Inn postcards. I am only missing one that I am aware of--a picture of the Holiday Inn pool. The black and white one is one of the rarer ones. They used the same photo for a black and white photo. In addition, there is a proof photo, which I am happy to share if anyone is interested.

Ted, thanks for sharing this. I was unaware of the blue background variety. Methinks this blue variety looks much, much more significant than the "so what" white letter version. Besides, us kid collectors were all feeling blue that this would be Mickey's last regular issue baseball card. That is, until we went to our first adult baseball card convention and discovered Topps had been busy printing Mick with some other of its sets (1969 Topps Super baseball). Anyways, thanks again. Whoa Nellie--so much more significant! ---Brian Powell

I acquired this Blue Mantle at an Antique shop for $15.....circa 1987.

I've looked for another Blue one ever since then. Have not seen one.

But, a friend of mine in the California said he had (or seen) one years ago.

I guess we can chalk it up to a really rare printing error.

Chris, please forgive me, as I wanted to salute you on your fine specimen of the 1960 Home Run Derby Mickey Mantle, one of the hardest Mantle cards to find. When I ponder the memory of how you got that gorgeous beauty, and in the hardest way possible----buying what was virtually a complete set JUST to get your hands on that lovely "impossible dream" Mantle piece--I smile broadly in pride for you. I've said it before, but way to go, collecting bro!

I got this in the late 80s at Mickey Mantle's Restaurant and Sports Bar at a private opening on the eve before the public opening - it turned out that the realtor who brokered the lease was also my employer's broker, just a block away.

There was a section that was "blocked off", but very visible, for Mick and Billy and Yogi. Later, Mick came into the main area and sat at a table with a stack of these to autopgraph. I have no idea who Sports Impression, Inc. is, but I don't live all that far from Central Islip. I'd go over there but I doubt anybody's home!

Anyone ever see a Mickey "card" like this before? It measures roughly about 4x6" (no ruler handy), slim cardboard. As I mentioned, he had a stack so there must be more out there.
