Default Rare Willie Mays items

Anyone a Willie Mays collector ?

Ive been at it a while and seem to be down to those last few ultra tough ones - 50s Briggs Meats, 60s Meadowgold, 50s Packard Bell, 67T punch out

Has anyone picked these up recently...or lucky enough to happen to have a few of these killers ?

I don't but believe Willie appears in more Topps test and limited sets than any other player of his era. Always wondered if Sy Berger had something to do with his ubiquitousness, them being best buds and all.

There is a 1954 Stahl Meyer Willie Mays in the BST right now for $3500, in case you're interested.

I have the 67 Punch Out, the 67 Stand Up and the 67 and 68 Discs, and associated Plaq checklist card. But do not collect him per se. They are parts of sets or in the case of the 68 Discs, a partial set

Default Mays

That green plastic coin and the Topps plaque are not that hard to find...pick them up at any mid size show . ( Yea, sure you will ! LOL )

I now see 58 Packard Bell Mays in Huggins auction

Stahl Meyer I have already

The 67T punch out...I messed up on that..a couple yrs ago..an auction house sold three of them.. I was right on them,.then the higher the price got..well you know how that goes

Meadowgold..don't know if anyone has that..but youd really have to think hard about paying $2000 + for a little scrap of cut out /black and white....square the size of a post it note

Interesting, I didn't know that,
but yea, those variations on Mays stuff...I tend to stay away from..only because it would drive me crazy ...its been hard enough trying to even get one of everything..let alone two ( one with Mays bat on shoulder, one with bat off shoulder, etc...) The Mays WL would go from a dozen..to about three dozen

But.... the 60s Meadow Gold is simply gorgeous compared to the '86 ones.

Yea, that 80s meadow gold is pretty awful looking … that 1961 7/11 card of Mays is also a hard to find...issues only in certain areas of country that year

Default Rare Mays Items Tip of the Iceberg

There are many rare Mays items that are not indexed or catalogued especially pins. One rare Mays pin was sold at the 1954 World Series and had a ribbon attached that read 1954 World Series.

It's a Baseball Magazine supplement. An m114. The Mays doesn't pop up very often.

Default On Loan to Mayseum

Having opened my Mayseum, occassionally advanced collectors will loan rare items for exhibit and display. One collector's consortium shared the Willie Mays pin find and fossils. Many thanks to my friends and collecting colleagues. If you can provide any background on these archaeological hobby finds, please share. Thank you. Mike Mays
