Default Heritage t206s insane last night

I'm sure almost all those common 7s and HOF 7 and 6s set records, in many cases easily...The consignor had put together set based on "beauty" and much of centering was perfect or in the neighborhood. The Heritage "beauty" hype not doubt helped but I'm still not sure why a very common 7 that had normally gone for (or would be expected to go for) let's say $2100 was suddenly $3300, and so on...very few scarce backs, tho a few Sov and OM mixed in...

Thoughts?

Default Heritage

A few examples, all with common backs:

Baker, PSA 7 was $9800. There was a 7 sold in REA in Dec for $10k. Last sale before that was $2,000 in 2020.

Cobb Red, sold for $72k, which is less than the $93k in December and the $102k in 2022.

Crawford batting PSA 7 sold for $8100, which is higher than its highest sales price ever of $2700.

Lajoie portrait in PSA 7 sold for over $15k. Its highest ever sales price before was $9,000. Most priors were in the $3-5k range.

Lajoie Batting PSA sold for $18k. One prior sale was at $15k, with 2 sales at $9k, with most others $5k range.

Cobb aside, these prices are very strong compared to what we’ve been seeing this past year. Not sure if it’s related to the stock market and crypto markets being higher??? Maybe people are focusing on the rare and hard to find cards whether it’s the rare backs on key players or the higher graded cards of key players which are harder to find??? Prices in the low grades seem to be falling while prices for 6-8s are going up.

I think it's a combination of forces, over the last couple of years as big money collectors have moved from modern to post war to pre war they have brought the "highest grade" and registry mentality with them, there also seems to be a few old school collectors with resources going for a NM 7 T296 set at the moment.

Default “Rule 22”

Is that Rule 22 from Heritage? The auctioneer is allowed to bid their own items? (Edited)

They’re allowed to do what their rules say they are allowed to do…… I have no idea what any definitions mean in this hobby in 2023 it’s all up for opinion it obviously doesn’t matter people still bid and will pay whatever if they want the card. White-collar hobby.

Combo of rule 22 and actual bidders getting FOMO. It’s pure price manipulation.
