Default Rookie Cards of Your Kids

Posted By: Jerry Hrechka

In 1992 I attended a Toronto Blue Jays Game. They had a concession stand were you could have a BB card made of anyone. I had a card made of my 4 year old son:

Just wondering if any one else had ever done this. It is and alway will be the best card in my collection - Wouldn't trade it for the PSA8 Wagner or Leon's King Kelly Four Base Hit card.
So show your Kid's Rookie cards.

really? You wouldn't trade it for a PSA 8 Wagner? I love my kids and all, but I couldn't possibly imagine the circumstances were any photo of one of my children is worth millions of dollars to me. On the other hand, the actual children...

I have enough money to live comfortably and pursue my collecting habit. The look on my son's face when he held the card, that priceless moment is worth more than any amount of cold hard cash. I alway's tell my kid's that we will live better than 90% of the people that have ever lived plus our Degu's & Ferrets live better than most of the people in Darfur.

Actually if I had to make a choice I would pick the King Kelly Four Base Hit card over the Wagner - Kelly is much rarer.

Every year I make cards of my elementary students. GAI even slabs them for us. Each student gets a complete set of cards. On the back, the student writes 50 words or less their favorite things in life.

The first few years the cards were printed using a Four Color press. ($500,000 printing press) Now we do our cards using an iGen. (Million dollar press).

I used to have a link to a website where you upload a photo and they make and sell you your own baseball card for a few bucks...

I wish I still had this.... anyone know of the website?

This is the birth announcement we did for our son in 1983. The company that did it was one of Jim Bouton's baseball-related ventures. After we had the cards done, I thought it would be cool to give them out in packs, so I bought Topps wax packs for everyone and inserted my son's card.

It was also what got me back into collecting and my bank account hasn't been the same since!

I agree with Jerry- this season I photographed every game, and then for the championship dinner (my son's team were the league champs) I handed out a set of cards to each kid, with an extra half dozen of their own card. The kids completely flipped out!
The template came from a friend that I think wants to stay nameless, but it was much appreciated. Funnest project I've done in a while, and it's definitely a 10 in my book.

My pride and joy. I thought he would be a big leaguer but he went on to be a golfer and a college squash player.

I love this stuff. Both of my boys of summer, and how about the old ball coach?

Great cards everyone. For once I think we can all agree that these cards do not need to be graded, to all be GEM MINT 10'S.
